Foot Mercato in France says that Manchester United has been keeping an eye on RB Leipzig center-back Castello Lukeba for weeks.
Since Raphael Varane could leave for free this summer, the Red Devils are likely to spend a lot of money on a star center defender.
The Frenchman has had another season with a lot of injuries at the club, and he may be able to leave if the club’s leaders don’t agree to extend his deal past June.
Mercato today says that United is keeping an eye on Lukeba. However, United isn’t the only team after the former Lyon player; Chelsea is also interested.
Since moving to the Bundesliga last summer, the 21-year-old has come a long way. Between now and June 2025, he can be released for €70 million.
It has been said that Leipzig doesn’t want to let him go this summer.
United probably won’t spend a lot of money on Lukeba.
The Red Devils are likely to miss out on the Champions League right now, but they still need points in the Premier League to get into another European tournament.
They could also get into the Europa League if they beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final.
Even so, we don’t think the club will spend €70m or more on Lukeba because of problems with Financial Fair Play. This summer, it might be important to be careful with your money.
Lukeba has shown that he can be good at passing the ball, winning duels, and clearing the ball, but the Frenchman isn’t very good at winning tackles.
He might get better with time and experience, but United might want a player with more experience. Lukeba, on the other hand, has always played as a left center back.”
United might want someone who can play both central defensive spots if possible. This is another reason the club might not try to sign him in the summer.
