MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — A Texas man is behind bars after he reportedly stalked singer Shakira and went to her home in South Florida.
Daniel Valtier, 56, was charged with stalking and hiring a vehicle with intent to defraud.
According to an arrest report retrieved by WSVN-TV,
Shakira and her security team were alerted of Valiter’s potential actions after he made several social media posts of the singer and also sent deliveries of wine bottles, gifts and toys to her bayfront home in Miami Beach between late December and the early start of this year.
In the social media posts, the 56-year-old man – who lived in El Paso – said he was in a relationship with the singer, adding that they were married and had a family, WSVN-TV reports.
Valtier reportedly said he and Shakira were also about to start a business together.
WPLG-TV says Shakira’s security team told Valtier to stop posting false information on social media and sending packages to the home. However, the Texas man later posted a business card from a hotel in Florida’s Panhandle that said he was going to Shakira’s home.
Police were told about Valiter’s presence in South Florida. On Monday, he took a cab to make his way outside of Shakira’s home where he was arrested by officers with the Miami Beach Police Department, WSVN-TV reports.
According to the arrest reports, WPLG-TV says Valiter did not pay his cab fare and told police that Shaira would pay for it. He was being held at a correctional center in Miami-Dade County.
