Scarlett Johansson admits there was very little method to her and Colin Jost’s madness when they came up with son Cosmo’s name.
“[We] threw a bunch of letters together,” the “Avengers” star, 37, said during her appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” on Monday.
“I just really thought it was charming and our friends liked it.”
Although she and Jost, 40, loved the moniker, Johansson said it took a little convincing to get her mother-in-law, Kerry Kelly, on board with it.

“Colin’s mom had a little bit of a harder time with it,” she shared. “She kept suggesting other versions of it for a while.”
She added, “I was like, ‘He’s already here. He’s out. Like, it’s past that time.’”
The “Black Widow” star, who also shares daughter Rose with ex-husband Romain Dauraic, said her 8-year-old was also a fan of the unique name.

“Cosmo is a really sweet little flower that comes in different shades of orange and yellow and stuff like that,” Johansson said. “That’s why my daughter liked it too.”
Last October, Jost addressed his mother’s reaction to his baby boy’s name during an appearance on “Late Night With Seth Myers.”
“After three or four days, she would be like, ‘Cosmo? Is it final? Did you submit the birth certificate?’ We were like, ‘Oh yeah, we did that at the hospital,’” he said.
“She’s like, ‘OK. Interesting. Because I was reading that there’s also a name, Cosimo, with an ‘I’. So that could also be an option. Maybe you call him Cosimo, that’s his real name, and then you could call him still Cosmo?’” the comedian recalled.
The New York native said his mother consulted other members “of the Italian community” before finally approving of the moniker.
“She lives in Staten Island. Eventually she started meeting various members of the Italian community who have a lot of Cosmo relatives,” the “SNL” star said.
“And so then she would call and she would say, ‘I met someone. They said their uncle’s name is Cosmo, so it is OK.’”
Johansson and Jost, who got engaged after two years of dating in 2019, eventually said “I do” in 2020. They announced the birth of their son in August 2021 after keeping the pregnancy under wraps.
“Scarlett is pregnant but has been keeping it very quiet,” an insider told Page Six at the time. “She has been keeping a very low profile.”
