He also commented on Lionel Messi winning the 2023 FIFA Men’s Player of the Year award and stated that he does not believe in such awards anymore.
Ronaldo said in the above interview: “I think, these awards are losing their authenticity. We have to analyze the whole season. Not to say that Messi is not worthy, or Haaland or even Mbappe. I simply don’t believe in these awards anymore.
And it’s not because I won at Globe Soccer. But what I say are the facts about the goal numbers of this award. And numbers don’t lie. I believe in the current award, because it is an accurate measure of how many goals a player scores. That makes me feel happier, because the numbers are facts.”
Messi topped FIFA’s voting for The Best 2023 award, followed by Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe.
