Robyn Rihanna Fenty was born on February 20, 1988 in Barbados. Rihanna grew up in an unhappy family with a father who was an alcoholic, drug addict, and mistreated his wife and children. Her parents divorced when Rihanna turned 14 years old. In addition to her two biological brothers, she also has three half-brothers.

She started singing when she was 7 years old. While in high school, she won first prize in the school beauty contest. Along with two schoolmates, Rihanna formed a band at the age of 15. A lucky opportunity came for her when the trio was introduced to producer Evan Rogers.
