3 things about the Eagles
1. After choosing to sign with the Eagles over the Cowboys on Monday, linebacker Shaquille Leonard is set to make his debut with Philadelphia against Dallas. Leonard was considered one of the top players at his position before health issues in recent years. He’s a three-time Pro Bowler and was a 2018 Defensive Rookie of the Year. He had 65 tackles with two tackles for loss in nine games before he was a surprise release by the Colts on Nov. 21. After Leonard signed with the Eagles, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Leonard “had a place” with Dallas, but he wished him well on his decision to join Philadelphia.
2. Philadelphia is coming off its worst loss of the season, a 42-19 defeat at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers. With the loss, the Eagles currently sit one game ahead of the Cowboys at the top of the NFC East. The Cowboys can tie the Eagles for first with a victory Sunday night. But even with a Cowboys win, Dallas will need the Eagles to lose again if it is to try to finish first and get home games for the playoffs. If both win out after next Sunday to finish tied at 14-3, the Cowboys’ loss to Arizona hits harder than the Eagles’ loss to the Jets and so Philadelphia will win the tiebreaker based on having a better conference record.
3. Like Dak Prescott, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has been in the thick of the NFL MVP race. In 12 games this season, Hurts has thrown for 2,995 yards and 19 touchdowns while rushing for 430 yards and 12 touchdowns. However, Hurts has been more turnover-prone this season. He has already thrown a career-high 10 interceptions this year with five more games remaining in the regular season. In the Eagles’ win over the Cowboys in November, Hurts threw for 207 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. He also rushed for 36 yards and another score.
