Liverpool fail to beat United in three meetings

Liverpool played Manchester United three times this season and failed to win any of their meetings, both Premier League matches finishing in draws, while United won their FA Cup clash in extra time.

Not the way Klopp would have wanted to finish against Liverpool’s great rivals.

Liverpool now second in the league

That was their chance to go top of the league.

And they’re now second to Arsenal.

Both are on 71 points but Arsenal have a goal difference of +51 compared to Liverpool’s +42. That’s a fair old difference.

Advantage Arsenal in the title race?

Liverpool waste chance to return to first place

A blow to Liverpool’s title hopes as they are held at Old Trafford. Salah’s late penalty salvaging a point after goals from Fernandes and Mainoo.

Klopp’s side left to rue not adding to Diaz’s opener during a dominant first-half display. Wasteful.

FULL TIME: Manchester United 2-2 Liverpool

That’s it! That’s the ball game! Brilliant entertainment once again.

Liverpool drop two vital points in the title race. Or did they gain one?

Casemiro SMASHES into Diaz!

90+7′ Manchester United 2-2 Liverpool

Uh oh! Luis Diaz does brilliantly to keep the ball in on the left touchline and Casemiro loses his head.

He flies headlong into a silly out-of-control sliding tackle on Luis Diaz and is booked.

Free-kick in a dangerous position… headed away, and Onana saves Elliott’s tame shot.

Is that it?

Antony is through…

90+7′ Manchester United 2-2 Liverpool

He’s got the chance to shoot…

But it’s saved by Kelleher!

One last attack?

90+7′ Manchester United 2-2 Liverpool

We are into the last minute of added time. One last attack, one last chance?

Bruno is wasteful

90+5′ Manchester United 2-2 Liverpool

Suddenly there was a two-on-two for United! Antony was bringing it forward down the right, and found Fernandes, but the Portuguese’s pass was (rarely for today) wayward.

Attack wasted.

DIAZ IS SO CLOSE!

90+4′ Manchester United 2-2 Liverpool

Oh my goodness gracious me, that is inches, inches, over from Luis Diaz.

A long ball to the back post, Andy Robertson gives Antony the tiniest nudge in the back, Antony throws himself down theatrically, Anthony Taylor rightly plays on, Robbo heads it across goal and Luis Diaz meets the ball with a flying half-volley.

But he’s leaning back. And it’s so, so close. But it whistles over. It wasn’t a foul!

Antony gets a booking for screaming angrily at Taylor.

A few minutes ago, Curtis Jones went into the book for a sliding tackle on Amrabat.

Now Mount makes a cynical foul and joins him in being yellow-carded.

United fans are singing their team on…

Liverpool pressing for winner

Back to the first-half pattern with United struggling to construct anything in the way of an attack and having to withstand immense Liverpool pressure.

Only one team looks like winning this but then that was the case at half-time too.

SEVEN minutes of stoppage time!

90+1′ Manchester United 2-2 Liverpool

We’re now in the first minute of seven added on.

Both managers frowning with concentration.

There’s more than enough time for a late winner here…

What a tackle from Bruno!

90′ Manchester United 2-2 Liverpool

Into the 90th minute at Old Trafford and Mohamed Salah looks to be in one on one but, somehow, Bruno Fernandes is the last man back! He comes from behind, steaming in out of nowhere, robs Salah and plays it back for Onana to clear.

Goal-saving tackle. Brilliant intervention. He’s been really good today.

Then Mount robs Salah in the box, another crucial foot in.

Maguire and Diaz square up!

88′ Manchester United 2-2 Liverpool

It’s now a testy, fraught atmosphere on the pitch.

Harry Maguire wins the ball off Luis Diaz, using his strength, and Diaz angrily wrestles with him after. Wan-Bissaka pulls him away!

Think Maguire told him to “duck off”, or something like that. Not quite sure.

Dangerous slope after pitch at Old Trafford

Diaz and Dalot both went down and off the pitch at the Scoreboard End. It’s a problem with Old Trafford, the pitch drops off too quickly and it can be dangerous for players. Any new stadium wouldn’t be built like this.

Mason Mount on for Mainoo
