Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was one of the inactive players for the Chiefs’ regular-season finale Sunday against the Chargers at SoFi Stadium, but he certainly was active on the sideline.
Given the day off, Mahomes could have just chatted up fellow inactive/best friend Travis Kelce. Instead, Mahomes was into the game and, as many fans noted, even had his mouthguard even though he was not going to play.
When Mike Edwards returned a fumble 97 yards for a touchdown, Mahomes helpfully pointed the way to the end zone.
The Chiefs ran a fake punt with La’Mical Perine, who picked up a first down. Guess who was hyped about that? Yep, it was Mahomes.
And like his Chiefs teammates, Mahomes was thrilled when defensive tackle Chris Jones got a sack and reached a big contract incentive.
Mahomes also pumped his fist and jumped for joy when Harrison Butker’s field goal with 49 seconds left in the game gave the Chiefs a 13-12 lead.
