Megan Fox is now a high profile actress and a celebrity who is always on the tip of people’s tongues. Her film roles and even her relationship with Machine Gun Kelly has helped Fox stay in the public spotlight.
However, when she starred in the thriller Jennifer’s Body alongside Amanda Seyfried, she wasn’t taken seriously. Critics gave the film mixed reviews and the poor reception threatened to harm Fox’s career.
The film is now widely regarded as a cult classic, with its fandom discovering the movie much later. However, at the time of its release, Jennifer’s Body helped send Fox into an emotional tailspin that she opened up about many years later.
Megan Fox Revealed She Went Through A Difficult Time After ‘Jennifer’s Body’ Was Released
After Jennifer’s Body was released, it received a mixed, but mostly negative reception. This is something Fox later revealed contributed to her having a difficult time emotionally. The biggest issue for Fox, however, was receiving a lot of hate from the public and having a bad relationship with the media.
Fox explained this tough period of her life during a 2019 interview with Entertainment Tonight.
“There was so much going on with me at that time,” Fox said. “That movie being picked apart was not at the top of [my list of concerns]…Because I had such a fraught relationship with the public, and the media, and journalists, and I was struggling so much at that time in general. This didn’t stand out as a particularly painful moment.”
“It was just part of the mix,” she continued. “It wasn’t just that movie, it was every day of my life, all the time, with every project I worked on and every producer I worked with. It preceded a breaking point for me.”
Fox then said, “I think I had a genuine psychological breakdown, where I wanted just nothing to do.”

In 2011, Fox’s co-star Amanda Seyfried told W Magazine that she believed the film was “overlooked” by audiences. She said that everyone involved made the film expecting “the masses,” but “the masses didn’t show up.”
Seyfried also said that Jennifer’s Body is her “favorite movie” that she has “ever done.”
Amanda Seyfried Realized She Doesn’t Like Shooting In Water While Filming This Scene In ‘Jennifer’s Body’
In 2023, Seyfried sat down with Vanity Fair to look back on her career so far. Seyfried watched clips from her films, including Mean Girls, Les Misérables, and Jennifer’s Body. The Jennifer’s Body scene featured Seyfried and Fox fighting in a pool.
“Don’t do it! Don’t ever shoot in water,” Seyfried said, calling the scene “an acting exercise like no other.” She also added that the actors were “freezing” during the scene.
Seyfried praised the director and Fox, saying that she and Fox had “such a good relationship” on set. However, she did say that she was often very cold during the shooting, because the film was shot mostly at night.
Seyfried also said that shooting in the pool contributed to the cold temperatures.
“Every time you see someone wet in a movie,” Seyfried began, “they’re not just wet for a minute or two. They’re wet for two days straight. And there’s warming tents and hot water bottles, but you have to act through it.”
“This was definitely one of the first action sequences in my career,” Seyfried said.
“I think, because we shot this towards the end of the movie, I had already done some other special effects action sequences,” she continued, referencing a scene where she flew above Fox while strapped to a harness.
Related Leslie Mann and Megan Fox’s characters in This is 40 shared some scenes together that may not have aged well.
“I remember realizing it wasn’t for me,” Seyfried continued. “I don’t want to be in pain in that way. I don’t want to make mistakes. I go to full throttle when I’m acting that I don’t trust that I will go halfway when you’re supposed to fight or fly up and keep your balance. “
Seyfried said that she learned a lot from the stunt coordinators on set, but ultimately decided that action sequences didn’t line up with her skill set.
Amanda Seyfried Has Praised ‘Jennifer’s Body’ In Interviews Despite The Film Flopping At The Box Office
In an interview with Collider, Seyfried said that she’s proud of Jennifer’s Body and praised those involved with the film for the job they did.
“I’m proud of it,” she said. “I’m not surprised that people really latched on and have come to appreciate it and created its own little fan base. I can’t think of another movie that’s similar to Jennifer’s Body. Diablo [Cody] wrote something. I think that was very special and Karyn Kusama did a f****** awesome job bringing it to life. You know, I was young and having fun.”
In a 2022 interview with Variety, Seyfried continued to praise Jennifer’s Body and even called the film “art.”
“Oh my God! Honestly, in terms of box office success, we didn’t see that,” Seyfried said. “Whatever. For me, it was always about the experience of making it and being terrified of when it came out, because it felt like it always meant something.”
Seyfried then spoke about the cult following the film has developed in recent years.
“It had a cult following, and for good reason,” she said. “Karyn Kusama is an amazing director. It was a f****** really badass story about best friends that was hilarious and dark and smart. It was unique! Sorry…but I have not ever read another script or seen another movie that feels like Jennifer’s Body. It was art.”

“I’m really proud of the job I did, and the fun we had,” Seyfried said. “It’s so nice to be celebrated for it. Even if it’s years later, it doesn’t f****** matter. I think it was a great movie, so it feels really good that people are still talking about it. To be a part of anything that’s stayed is cool.”
