Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya officially won the Premier League Golden Glove with 14 clean sheets by the end of round 35.
David Raya won the Premier League Golden Glove title after Jordan Pickford failed to keep a clean sheet for Everton in the Premier League round 36 match this morning.
Raya has kept 14 clean sheets in 29 appearances for Arsenal this season, an achievement that Pickford cannot surpass with 12 clean sheets and two remaining. Raya is currently on loan at Arsenal from Brentford.
Raya’s main opponent, Jordan Pickford, needed to keep a clean sheet for Everton against Luton Town this morning (May 4), but was unable to do so because Everton let their opponent draw 1-1.
With Everton’s two games remaining and 12 clean sheets to date, Pickford can now only be matched by Raya, who has three games left to play for Arsenal. Raya became the first Arsenal goalkeeper to win the Golden Glove since Petr Cech in the 2015-16 season, keeping 16 clean sheets as the Gunners finished second in the Premier League.
Mikel Arteta can feel proud of the Raya goalkeeper’s clean sheet record this season. The Arsenal manager came in for criticism after replacing Aaron Ramsdale with Raya, who joined the club on a season-long loan deal from Brentford in August.
Ramsdale played in all 38 of Arsenal’s Premier League matches last season, keeping 14 clean sheets. But Raya became Arteta’s clear first-choice goalkeeper from September onwards, remaining number one even after he made two mistakes in Arsenal’s 4-3 win over Luton Town in December.
He became a hero after saving two penalties in Arsenal’s penalty shootout victory over Porto in the UEFA Champions League, helping Arsenal reach the quarter-finals.
Next season Raya will officially arrive at the Emirates, he will be an important link in captain Arteta’s squad.
