Workers preparing to lay new water pipes discovered an ancient burial site with skeletons in mysterious positions, believed to be “human sacrifices” nearly 3,000 years ago in England.

The New York Post reported that about 26 human skeletons from the Iron Age and Roman period were found in Childrey Warren, in Oxfordshire, some of which are believed to have been buried in sacrificial rituals .

Through examination, the skeleton was dated to nearly 3,000 years ago during the Iron Age. The discovery of this burial site revives the beliefs and superstitions of people living in Oxfordshire before the Roman conquest, said Neil Holbrook, director of the Cotswold Institute of Archaeology.

Around the archaeological site, evidence of houses, animal remains and household items such as pottery, cutting tools and decorative combs were also discovered.

Other archaeological sites around the world also provide a glimpse into this bloody era. Experts in Peru recently revealed gruesome details of a 15th-century human sacrifice site containing the remains of more than 140 children.

Experts also found a series of human remains during an excavation at the Templo Mayor temple in central Mexico City.
