Back in 2012, the soccer world witnessed one of the most memorable semi-finals in Champions League history. After losing 1-2 in the first leg, Real Madrid had a chance to bounce back by welcoming Bayern Munich at home.
Despite defeating the Gray Tigers with a score of 2-1, Real ultimately failed to advance to the finals, losing 2-3 in the penalty shootout. Recalling this defeat, coach Jose Mourinho admitted that he cried and Cristiano Ronaldo was extremely sad. The Portuguese strategist shared:
“That was the first and only time I cried after a match. Obviously I didn’t do it on the field or in the locker room, but in the car on the way home.”
“I was completely devastated and suddenly I got a call for help from Jorge Mendes. He wanted me to go to Cristiano Ronaldo’s house, because he looked like he was dead.”
“’Me too – I told him, but I did it. I got ready, wiped my tears and went to Ronaldo’s house. We are all suffering.”
