Megan Fox’s Underrated Horror Film Gets Optimistic Sequel Update

Jennifer’s Body, starring Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried, has become a satirical, feminist cult classic horror, and the sequel has received an encouraging update.

New Deadpool 3 Synopsis Dropped

Speaking to Bloody Disgusting, Jennifer’s Body writer Diablo Cody expressed his desire for a sequel. With Karyn Kusama at the helm, the film, which was released in 2009, followed a possessed high school student, Jennifer Check (Megan Fox), who begins feeding on male classmates. Although the film received mixed reviews from critics, it is regarded as a feminist revenge film now. Speaking about the film, Cody excitedly revealed that “YES! I wanna do a sequel.”

Related Jennifer’s Body used comedy in wildly clever ways to explore its themes. As a result, it’s become a cult classic for all the right reasons.

Cody continued, “I am not done with Jennifer’s Body. I just need to find… I need to partner with people who believe it in as much as I do and that hasn’t really happened yet. I need someone to believe in it who has a billion dollars.”

Filled with LGBTQ+ themes, feminist messages, and complex friendships, the slasher didn’t win the hearts of the audience. Cody addressed this phenomenon, adding, “I mean, it’s gotten progressively happier for me. At first I was like, I was excited about it obviously, but I was also a little bit salty because I remember thinking, well where was this audience when the movie came out. It was a critical, commercial failure.”

“I was pretty humiliated to be perfectly honest with you. It was a rough experience having that movie come out. It was rough for me, it was rough for Megan [Fox]… [then] people started suddenly talking about it like it was a good movie, which I had thought all along. “At first I just thought, oh where was this audience when I needed it, and then I realized they were like…seven,” Cody continued. “And then some people who maybe didn’t appreciate it at the time have come around and now I’m just like, there’s no saltiness, now I’m just happy.”

Related Resident Evil’s Alice has been a part of some amazing action scenes in the film franchise. But there’s more than action that makes her so iconic.

Jennifer’s Body Didn’t Resonate With the Audience Initially

Megan Fox made her big debut in 2007’s Transformers, but 2009’s Jennifer’s Body is often considered one of her best roles. Unfortunately, the audiences didn’t believe so when the film premiered. With a budget of $16 million, the film’s worldwide gross only amounted to $31.5 million. Aside from Fox and Seyfried, the cast of Jennifer’s Body included Johnny Simmons, Adam Brody, Amy Sedaris, and J.K. Simmons.

One of the reasons why the film didn’t succeed was its marketing. Having Megan Fox in the lead role, known for her car-leaning scenes in Transformers, the marketing was targeted toward men, particularly those aged 17 and older. The promo for the movie hinted at a salacious horror, focused on Fox and her sex appeal, without focusing on the film itself, the message, or its tone.

The perception of the film changed over the years, and it gained more recognition. Although there are no official plans for a Jennifer’s Body 2, the film might do better in the current scenario. On top of that, Megan Fox’s career shifted from the image the audience had of her, and received praise for her latest roles, including one in The Expendables 4. Because of that, and how times have changed since 2009, the film might find a better audience if the cast and crew returns for a sequel.
