Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly have made headlines ever since they first sparked romance rumors in May 2020.
The pair met on the set of the indie thriller Midnight in the Switchgrass in March 2020, and though production was quickly halted due to the pandemic, Fox and MGK (real name Colson Baker) were spotted spending quality time together shortly after. That same month, Fox’s ex-husband, Brian Austin Green, confirmed his split from the Transformers alum.
Days later, the rumors hit a fever pitch when Fox appeared as MGK’s love interest in the music video for his single, “Bloody Valentine.”
By July 2023, the couple had confirmed their relationship, giving their first joint interview on the Give Them Lala podcast where Fox called MGK her “twin flame.”
MGK later proposed to Fox in January 2022. In the months after, Fox and MGK made several steamy joint red carpet appearances, including at the Grammys in February 2023.
Shortly after the Grammys, Fox sent fans spiraling when she seemingly hinted that the couple had broken up on Instagram. The actress shared a cryptic post featuring lyrics from Beyoncé’s 2016 album Lemonade and a video of an envelope being burned in a fire pit. She also removed all photographs and videos of herself and MGK from her Instagram before deleting her profile altogether. An insider later said that the pair had a fight and Fox is “very upset” and “won’t speak to” MGK.
In March 2023, the actress arrived at the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty by herself, notably not wearing her engagement ring. Two months later, the couple were seen together for the first time since their rumored split at the Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit issue launch.
From their initial meeting to their engagement blood-drinking ritual, here’s what to know about Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly’s relationship.
Fox and MGK first met in Puerto Rico while filming Midnight in the Switchgrass. On March 11 of that year, the rapper shared a photo of his and Fox’s cast chairs positioned next to each other on set.
Days later, Deadline reported that production was shut down due to the pandemic on March 16, and that the cast and crew had flown home.
After the pair were spotted together multiple times in May, a source told PEOPLE that Fox and MGK had been “spending time together at Megan’s house,” adding, “They seem to have fun and look happy together. Megan only sees him when the kids are with Brian.”
Shortly after, Fox’s then-husband Brian Austin Green confirmed the couple’s split after nearly 10 years of marriage. On an episode of his …With Brian Austin Green podcast, the actor shared that he felt distant from Fox before she left to film Midnight in the Switchgrass.
When she returned home, Green said things “hadn’t really changed,” and that during a conversation about their marriage, Fox said she felt “more like myself” on her own. He added that he was “shocked” and “upset,” but he understood that his wife’s feelings weren’t “a choice she made.”
“I can’t be upset at her because she didn’t ask to feel that way,” Green explained before saying that he and Fox had decided to separate. The former couple, who share sons Journey River, Bodhi Ransom and Noah Shannon, later finalized their divorce in February 2022.
The couple put their rumored romance on full display when Fox appeared in MGK’s “Bloody Valentine” music video. In the video, the Jennifer’s Body actress can be seen duct-taping MGK’s mouth and tying him up to make him her hostage. The rapper also posted a BTS clip of Fox tearing the duct tape off his back to promote the steamy release.
A day before the Daily Mail published photos of the couple holding hands and kissing after a night out in Sherman Oaks, California, MGK referenced a lyric from “Bloody Valentine” on Twitter, writing, “I’m calling you ‘girlfriend,’ what the f—? Life imitated art on that one.”
In a video interview with Teen Vogue, MGK called “Bloody Valentine” his “favorite” video thanks to “other more personal reasons,” hinting at his costar’s involvement. He also shared that Fox got a pedicure prior to the shoot, adding, “It’s no secret. I think feet are beautiful. And I think Megan has the most beautiful feet that exist.”
Serving as guests on Lala Kent and Randall Emmett’s podcast, Give Them Lala … With Randall, Fox recalled how she reacted after learning that MGK was cast as her co-star in Midnight in the Switchgrass.
“I was like, ‘Who is going to play this role?’ And he was like, ‘Oh, we just got Machine Gun Kelly,’ and immediately, I was like, ‘Uh oh,’ ” Fox said. “Because I knew, I could feel that some wild s— was going to happen to me from that meeting, but I wasn’t yet sure what. I just felt it like, deep in my soul — that something was going to come from that.”
She also revealed that their connection was instant, adding, “I knew right away that he was what I call a twin flame. Instead of a soul mate, a twin flame is actually where a soul has ascended into a high enough level that it can be split into two different bodies at the same time. So we’re actually two halves of the same soul, I think. And I said that to him almost immediately, because I felt it right away.”
For his part, MGK shared he looked for opportunities to make eye contact with Fox “every day.”
For the couple’s Instagram debut, they posed for a playful black-and-white mirror photo, with MGK writing in the caption, “Waited for eternity to find you again … 🔪💫❤️🔪.”
One week later, Fox shared her own post-swim black-and-white mirror photo, captioning it, “Achingly Beautiful Boy… My heart is yours 🔪♥️🔪.” That same day, her ex Green shared photos of his four sons on social media, writing, “Achingly beautiful boys…… My heart is yours.”
The rapper made it abundantly clear that he’s off the market during a BuzzFeed segment called Thirst Tweets. Responding to a fan who asked if he’d be free for a date, he said, “I’m locked in already right now. No dates for me. Probably ever.”
To another who declared they would “let Machine Gun Kelly suck my toes maybe,” he replied, “Like I said, I’m only sucking one pair of toes.”
To celebrate the radio debut of “Bloody Valentine,” the duo rocked out to his song in the car, as seen in a clip MGK shared on Instagram.
During an appearance on The Howard Stern Show, MGK spoke about falling in love with Fox, revealing he “didn’t know what [love] was until me and her made eye contact.”
“That’s when I was like, ‘Whoa,’ ” the rapper shared, adding that Fox changed his perspective on love. “After I made the big chunk of the album, I did fall in love for the first time. That was my first experience with being open to love and stuff like that. I definitely wasn’t set up to believe that that’s something that could ever exist.”
Serving as Nylon’s cover star, Fox opened up about her romance with MGK, saying that the pair has a connection of “mythic proportions.”
“Loving him is like being in love with a tsunami or a forest fire,” she shared. “The intensity of merging with him is just overwhelming, and the threat it poses is so powerful but so beautiful that you have no choice to surrender with reverence and with gratitude.”
The couple turned up on the red carpet of the 2020 American Music Awards to make their red carpet debut, with Fox introducing MGK’s performance of “Bloody Valentine” and “My Ex’s Best Friend” at the show.
Fox also showed off a new shoulder tattoo that reads “El pistolero” (which is Spanish for “the gunman”), believed to be in honor of her beau — though she hasn’t confirmed the meaning behind the ink.
When speaking to Dave Franco for Interview magazine, MGK shared how Fox supports his mental health.
“When you have a partner, mine being Megan, sitting there with you on those dark nights when you’re sweating and not being able to figure out why you’re so in your head, to help you get out of your head and put it in perspective, that really, really helps,” he said.
The couple sparked engagement speculation after Fox was spotted wearing a massive ring in New York City while in town for MGK’s Saturday Night Live performance.
However, a source confirmed to PEOPLE at the time that the pair wasn’t quite there yet.
“They are very serious and plan on spending the future together. There will be an engagement at some point, but they are not engaged now,” the insider shared, adding that the actress was still in the process of finalizing her divorce.
Fox also appeared to shut down the rumors herself when she debuted a NSFW ring on Instagram Stories. She also added the words “F— You” and a side-eye emoji to the post for good measure.
One day later, MGK made his Saturday Night Live performance debut with Fox by his side for the big night. She supported her boyfriend on Instagram, calling his appearance the “best performance that show has ever seen.”
In celebration of their first Valentine’s Day as a couple, MGK shared a gallery of pictures and videos in tribute to his lady, including a photo of a necklace that appeared to contain a drop of her blood.
“I wear your blood around my neck,” he captioned the post. Fox also shared a few intimate snaps along with a heartfelt poem for a caption.
The Jennifer’s Body star shared a sweet selfie for MGK’s 31st birthday, captioning the shot, “Happy Birthday blonde angel baby.”
MGK took to Twitter to share with fans: “she said ‘i love you’ one year ago today,” which was just five days after the debut of their sizzling music video appearance.
Fox took the VMAs stage with pal Kourtney Kardashian, who is now married to drummer Travis Barker, to introduce their significant others as they performed “Paper Cuts.”
“I am a huge fan of this next performer,” Fox began. “I’ve watched him grow, and not just as an artist, but as a person.” She got cheeky, ending with, “New York, I need you to get extra loud for our future baby daddies.”
MGK and Fox posed for their first magazine cover as a couple for British GQ Style’s Autumn/Winter 2021 issue, with the rapper calling their relationship “ecstasy and agony for sure.”
“I don’t want people to think anything’s perfect with us. I didn’t say it was the darkest fairy tale for no reason,” he added.
In a couple’s quiz video, the duo revealed they actually met in passing at a GQ party in L.A. During their initial interaction, Fox told MGK he “smelled like weed,” to which he responded, “I am weed.”
The couple also shared that their first date involved “thousands of roses” and sushi, along with an unconventional first kiss in which they “breathed each other.”
After more than a year of dating, MGK proposed to Fox in early 2022.
The couple announced their engagement with separate Instagram posts, sharing videos and photos from their proposal in front of a banyan tree they’d first sat under in July 2020.
Fox reflected on their romance in her caption, writing, “Somehow a year and a half later, having walked through hell together, and having laughed more than I ever imagined possible, he asked me to marry him. And just as in every lifetime before this one, and as in every lifetime that will follow it, I said yes…and then we drank each other’s blood.”
MGK also shared a video of the emerald and diamond engagement ring he gave Fox, writing, “I know tradition is one ring, but i designed it with Stephen Webster to be two: the emerald (her birth stone) and the diamond (my birth stone) set on two magnetic bands of thorns that draw together as two halves of the same soul forming the obscure heart that is our love. 1-11-2022 ✨.”
The couple welcomed a new member into their family in February. MGK took to Instagram to introduce their new kitten, Whiskey, in a series of adorable photos and videos. He captioned the post, “welcome Whiskey to the gang XX 🔪❤️.”
For her British Glamour cover, Fox offered clarity on her Instagram caption from the couple’s engagement, which stated, “I said yes…and then we drank each other’s blood.”
The actress told the publication that the pair does indeed consume each other’s blood, but for “ritual purposes only.”
“So, I guess to ‘drink’ each other’s blood might mislead people or people are imagining us with goblets and we’re like Game of Thrones, drinking each other’s blood. It’s just a few drops, but yes, we do consume each other’s blood on occasion for ritual purposes only.”
Fox also added that while the practice is “controlled,” her fiancé is “much more haphazard and hectic and chaotic, where he’s willing to just cut his chest open with broken glass and be like, ‘Take my soul.'”
The couple wore coordinating pink ensembles as they attended the premiere of their film Good Mourning in West Hollywood, California.
Speaking with PEOPLE at the premiere event, MGK said that directing his fiancée in the film was a collaboration between both stars.
“She didn’t let me lead her character too much in any direction. She was like ‘I got this. I understand what this character is,’ ” he explained. “She improvised and brought [her character] Kennedy to life, and I’ve heard a lot of people say that that’s their favorite character in the movie.”
“I’ll always collaborate with Megan,” the Mainstream Sellout musician added. “I’m madly in love with her — and I’m also a fan.”
After walking the red carpet together, MGK sparked marriage rumors when he dedicated his song “Twin Flame” to Fox ahead of his performance at the Billboard Music Awards. “I wrote this song for my wife,” he said onstage.
Near the end of his emotional performance, MGK took a moment for another dedication, saying, “And this is for our unborn child.”
“Go to sleep / I’ll see you in my dreams / This changes everything / Now I have to set you free,” he sang, as the sound of a heartbeat followed shortly after.
In honor of Fox’s 36th birthday on May 16, the singer uploaded a carousel of images to his Instagram with the caption, “wishing the happiest birthday to my ethereal light being. i love you maki 🔪❤️🕯🕯”
The second photo showed off the couple’s matching ring-finger tattoos, voodoo dolls with pinned hearts and visible stitches.
The couple was among the intimate group of family and friends who attended Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker’s wedding ceremony in Portofino, Italy.
The two attended the New York premiere of MGK’s new Hulu documentary, Life in Pink, and walked the carpet in all-pink looks to celebrate.
In his new Hulu documentary Life in Pink, the singer opens up about falling into darkness after the death of his father in 2020 and revealed he had a suicide attempt while on the phone with Megan Fox. “I wouldn’t leave my room and I started getting really, really, really dark,” he said.
He continued, “Megan went to Bulgaria to shoot a movie and I started getting this really wild paranoia. Like I kept getting paranoid that someone was gonna come and kill me. I would always sleep with a shotgun next to my bed, and like, one of the days, I just f—— snapped.”
“I called Megan, I was like, ‘You aren’t here for me,'” he added. “I’m in my room and I’m like freaking out on her and dude, I put the shotgun in my mouth and I’m yelling on the phone and like the barrel’s in my mouth. I go to cock the shotgun and the bullet as it comes back up, the shell just gets jammed. Megan’s like dead silent.”
The musician said the moment was a turning point for him, adding that Fox and his daughter Casie, also expressed their concern for him.
“They simultaneously came at me with this like, ‘I want to like, be able to see in your eyes. I don’t want to like be talking to you through a veil anymore. I want to see you as my father and I want to see you as my husband-to-be,'” he recalled in the doc. “I was like, ‘I need to kick the drugs, for real this time.'”
In photos obtained by TMZ, Fox and MGK were spotted grabbing lunch in Brentwood, California. The outing took place amidst speculation that the two had broken up, since they hadn’t posted photos together on social media in a few months.
The couple pulled out all the stops for Beyoncé’s roller disco-themed birthday party. Fox wore a silver bikini top, mini shorts, white leg warmers and sky-high platform heels. As for MGK, he was decked out in purple-sequinned pants and a furry white and pink jacket. The rapper-turned-punk singer posted a carousel of pictures from the night on Instagram, including a shot of the duo posing on a leopard-print chair.
Fox and MGK are one fashionable couple — and they proved that once again during Milan Fashion Week. The power couple were spotted in 90s-inspired attire that was reminiscent of the fashion once donned by Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee, the latter of which MGK portrayed in the movie The Dirt.
Fox paired Kim Shui lace-up croc pants with an R13 flannel shirt and gold mules designed by Paris Texas, while MGK looked ominous in a skeleton-printed shirt, leather pants and a floor-length vinyl trench coat. They were also both wearing bucket hats.
Fox and MGK stepped out for the Time100 Gala in N.Y.C. where Fox debuted fiery, red locks. The actress’ hair complimented her shiny, copper-colored gown, which she paired with strappy heels. Meanwhile, MGK wore black latex pants and sleeves with his tattooed torso exposed. His hair was also noteworthy, with the musician wearing his long, platinum hair slicked back in a set of man buns.
After MGK shared photos of him and Fox at the Time100 Gala on Instagram, the actress responded in the comments section. “Never has anyone with better bone structure walked this earth😍Exquisitely, devastatingly handsome. And 6 foot 5? Kill me or get me pregnant. Those are the only options,” Fox wrote.
In his new film Taurus, MGK plays a troubled musician while Fox portrays his ex-girlfriend. The film is an exploration of the peaks and valleys that come with being a celebrity and working in the music industry.
In the official trailer, Fox makes a brief appearance — she’s seen hugging MGK in a music studio.
Fox released six nail polish colors under MGK’s brand, UN/DN LAQR, which were inspired by her “favorite crystals and gemstones.”
The couple shot a series of sexy images to promote the polish. In one photo, Fox has her hands around MGK’s neck. In another, Fox is wrapped in a white sheet as she poses on a bed.
MGK celebrated one year of being engaged to Fox by posting a throwback video on his Instagram Story. In the clip, the rapper placed the emerald part of Fox’s two-stone ring on her finger.
“One year ago under a banyan tree,” MGK wrote.
Fox joined MGK for the 2023 Grammys, where he was nominated for best rock album. The two walked the red carpet in matching metallic ensembles, with the rapper wearing a silver Dolce & Gabbana suit and gray mesh top while Fox was photographed in a white Zuhair Murad gown featuring a mesh corset.
Fox’s stylist, Maeve Reilly, shared a photo of the actress wearing the dress on Instagram, writing, “It was exactly what she wanted and was the only thing she tried on. Tonight was his night so we really wanted to keep her look simple and classic so he could shine!”
Fox seemed to suggest that she and MGK had split up in an Instagram post.
The actress shared photos of herself as well as a video of an envelope being burned in a fire pit. She captioned the cryptic post with lyrics from Beyoncé’s album Lemonade: “You can taste the dishonesty/ it’s all over your breath.”
Hours later, Fox deleted her Instagram account.
An insider told PEOPLE that the couple “had a fight over the weekend” and that Fox is “very upset” and “won’t speak to” MGK.
“They haven’t officially called off the engagement but Megan took her ring off,” the source added. “They have had issues in the past, but things seem pretty serious this time.”
A source told PEOPLE that Fox and MGK “are speaking and trying to work things out.”
“She was never one to casually date,” the insider said of the Jennifer’s Body actress. “She is with him because she believes it’s a long-term relationship. She isn’t just gonna give up on their relationship.”
The source continued: “There are trust issues and this causes conflicts right now. Megan is taking one day at a time.”
A week after hinting at a breakup with MGK, Fox returned to Instagram to set the record straight about cheating rumors.
“There has been no third party interference in this relationship of any kind. That includes, but is not limited to…actual humans, DMs, AI bots or succubus demons,” she wrote. “While I do hate to rob you of running random baseless news stories that would have been much more accurately written by ChatGPT, you need to let this story die and leave all of these innocent people alone now.”
A source then told PEOPLE that the Till Death star and MGK are “still not in a good place” following their big blowup.
A second source close to the couple added: “She’s now posted that there was no cheating, but she initially thought there was and now is backtracking a bit. She was definitely hinting at infidelity with her first post. She regrets making it all so public but was really upset in the moment. Their relationship is crazy and intense, yet it wouldn’t be shocking if they were back together completely by the end of the week.”
Fox attended the Vanity Fair Oscar Party solo while MGK performed at The Ritz Carlton, Laguna Niguel, in Dana Point, California. The actress wore a low-cut Miss Sohee Couture gown to the party and was notably not wearing her engagement ring.
On March 14, 2023, a source told PEOPLE that the pair are still struggling with their relationship. “They’re not completely done. They’re still trying to sort through things, but most of their friends think it is likely over. They’re just not ready to totally call it yet,” the insider said.
A source informed PEOPLE that the couple are “in therapy” because Fox is having a “hard time trusting” MGK.
“This is really boiling down to not working,” the insider added. “There have been points where they haven’t been speaking, it’s been that bad. Only time will tell if they get back together properly, but it looks pretty unlikely right now.”
Fox and MGK were photographed having dinner together at the Four Seasons Hotel in Hawaii, where they dined for about an hour.
The couple were visiting the island with MGK’s daughter, Casie.
Fox is one of four cover stars for Sports Illustrated‘s annual Swimsuit issue. The outlet celebrated another successful swim cover shoot with an event at the Hard Rock Hotel in New York City. Both Fox and MGK were in attendance, though they walked the red carpet separately.
When Entertainment Tonight asked for MGK’s opinion on the Till Death star’s SI cover, he simply said: “Hot.”
After a rocky few months, a source told PEOPLE that Fox and MGK “are back together” and are working through their issues in therapy.
“Things are still not back to normal,” the insider said. “They were wedding planning, but not anymore. They don’t have a wedding date. Megan still seems hesitant.”
The source continued: “She has just put so much time into their relationship. It’s hard for her to let go.”
Fox and MGK stepped out together for an event in London shortly after a source told PEOPLE they were working on “making their relationship better.”
The actress wore a white see-through asymmetrical tank and studded black pants while the rapper wore a sleeveless oversized gray suit.
According to a source, Fox “seems much happier” now that she and MGK have reconciled after a tumultuous few months.
“They have done a lot of work to make their relationship strong again and are back together,” the insider told PEOPLE, adding that the Jennifer’s Body star is once again wearing her engagement ring.
The couple, who were dressed as characters from Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: Volume 1, attended the Casamigos Halloween party in Los Angeles. Fox channeled fictional assassin Gogo Yubari in a schoolgirl ensemble and black wig, while MGK donned a yellow jumpsuit similar to the one worn by Uma Thurman’s character, The Bride.
In her book of poetry, Pretty Boys Are Poisonous, Fox wrote about suffering a miscarriage alongside MGK.
“I’ve never been through anything like that in my life. I have three kids, so it was very difficult for both of us and it sent us on a very wild journey together and separately,” she said during an interview with Good Morning America.
