The transfer of Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid is nearly completed and the only thing that needs to be finalized is the image copyright agreement.
According to AS, basically Kylian Mbappe will almost certainly be a member of Real Madrid next season . The two sides have been continuously negotiating recently and are completing everything except one clause.
That is an agreement on sharing image copyrights between the player and the club. Accordingly, Mbappe is said to want to keep 80% of the advertising profits while the remaining 20% will be allocated to Real Madrid.
However, Real Madrid has never given such a large difference to a player. Since the Galacticos era began, the club’s principle has been to divide image rights 50/50 between both sides.
Iconic superstars such as Figo, Ronaldo, David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane all enjoy the above-mentioned salary. Only Cristiano Ronaldo has ever received more than the 60/40 ratio, but that was when he signed a contract extension with the club.
Currently, Mbappe holds 100% of the image rights at PSG, helping him pocket 20 million Euros per year just from advertising. Accepting to share profits with the club is also considered a humble move by the French superstar.
But even if he accepts a share of profits from his image, Mbappe’s advertising income is expected to increase significantly.
Currently, Mbappe has 3 major sponsors: Nike, Hublot and Oakley. When he joins Real Madrid, his reputation will reach even further and the opportunity to have new advertising contracts is many.
Real Madrid and Mbappe are still negotiating on this issue because it will break precedent at the club. However, there is a high probability that everything will be approved. In return, Mbappe will have to give up his salary of 32 million Euros per year after tax like at PSG.
According to AS, Mbappe will receive 15-20 million Euros after taxes at Real Madrid. This number is still among the highest in the club, equivalent to superstars like Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr.
