According to La Liga president Javier Tebas; Messi and Barcelona were very close to reuniting. However, the deal collapsed when the Nou Camp team faced major financial barriers. Sharing with Kick TV, Javier Tebas said:

” From my personal perspective, Messi and Barcelona are very close to reuniting. When love appears, all economic issues will be put aside. I see that scenario as completely possible. I realized that the two sides were very close to each other. I’m sure Messi wants to retire at Barcelona .”
