Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix dance in eerie new poster for Joker: Folie à Deux – as trailer release date is revealed

Lady Gaga‘s Harley Quinn gets romantically dipped by Joaquin Phoenix’ Joker in an eerie new poster for their upcoming film.

Entitled Joker: Folie à Deux, the movie is a sequel to the 2019 picture Joker, which became a smash hit and netted Joaquin an Oscar for best actor.

Now Gaga has stepped into the franchise in the role of Harley, the Joker’s wild-spirited lover from the Batman comics.

The new poster shows the Joker in a tuxedo and Harley decked out in an elegant white gown, the pair of them dancing under a spotlight.

This Tuesday, the same day the evocative image was released, it emerged that the first trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux will drop next week on April 9.

The official Joker movie account on X, formerly known as Twitter, broke the news of the trailer release date and unveiled the film’s slogan: ‘The world is a stage.’

Directed by Todd Phillips, who also made the first film, Joker: Folie à Deux is slated for a theatrical release on October 4 this year.

Rumors have been circulating for over a year that the new Joker movie would be a musical, in spite of the fact that its predecessor was not.

Last month insiders told Variety the film would be ‘mostly a jukebox musical,’ meaning the songs will not be original but will be taken from other sources.

The movie is said to contain new renditions of at least 15 ‘very well-known’ numbers, including the Judy Garland classic That’s Entertainment from The Band Wagon.

Gaga previously followed in Judy Garland’s footsteps when she played the female lead in the 2018 film A Star Is Born, co-starring and directed by Bradley Cooper.

In the previous versions of A Star Is Born, Gaga’s role was played first by Janet Gaynor, then by Judy and then by Barbra Streisand.

Bradley meanwhile first became an international movie star in the comedy classic The Hangover – directed by none other than Todd Phillips.

At the end of the picture, the Joker is arrested and thrown in Arkham Asylum after he goes on late-night television, confesses to multiple murders and then shoots the host played by Robert De Niro dead on the air.

His arrest prompts riots to break out all over Gotham City as the disaffected criminal class of the city rally around him as a figurehead.
