Michigan football QB Bryce Underwood surprises high school security guard with new car
Underwood surprises mentor from Belleville High School
Michigan true freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood surprised his favorite high school security guard with a new car.
Underwood met with Belleville High School security guard Mych Darty on April 6, 2025, for an interview. Little did Darty know, this would be more than just a conversation about how much he meant to Underwood.
“The difference he made for the athletes here — honestly, whenever we needed somebody to lean on, he was there,” Underwood said. “Whenever we needed to get out of class for a mental break or anything like that, he was there.
“The genuineness out of Mych, you know? He really cares, and you can tell. He shows up for everybody and anybody, no matter what they did, no matter who they are.”
Underwood teamed up with Feldman Automotive Group to make the surprise happen.
The two talked about the first time they met and their relationship. Then, Underwood handed over the keys to the car.
Well, he’s one of the biggest names in college football and he grew up right here in Metro Detroit, Belleville’s own.
Bryce Underwood shocked the sports world after decommitting from Lsu to play and at foot- uh, play football at Michigan.
Our Heath Cobb talked to him to see what makes him special, both on and off the field: 6’4 recruit and the consensus number one overall ranked high school football player in the nation.
Bryce Underwood is a local celebrity in Belleville.
He has won two Michigan high school football player of the year awards and led the Tigers to two state championships.
Now he spends his days practicing in Ann Arbor as he’s in line to be the starting quarterback for the Wolverines as a freshman.
But before he officially puts on the Maze and Blue next fall, he wanted to give back to someone he’s made an unlikely relationship with, Belleville High School security guard Mike Dardy.
A few weekends ago Bryce invited Mike to the high school, where Mike was told he would be doing an interview about their close bond.
But Dardi would soon learn he would be leaving the school for a different reason in a different car that day.
Oh, this is so powerful.
I spoke to Bryce after we gave away this new Chevrolet to Mike, which he was able to do so through an Nil deal with the Filman Auto Group.
Just how awesome of an opportunity, as a 17-year-old, to be able to give back to someone who means a lot to you.
Um, honestly, I feel like that’s.
God bless him.
You know he put me on this earth to give back to the people that I love.
Bryce and Mike say that throughout Bryce’s time at Belleville High School, they would talk between classes at the beginning of the school day and anytime either of them needed an ear.
I feel like a lot of athletes need someone who they can just come talk to.
And for Bryce, it was an amazing opportunity to be able to help someone out who’s always been there.
For him.
It was nothing but excitement coming from me, you know.
Uh, he really couldn’t.
He really didn’t know what to show.
Honestly, you know.
So it was just like a blessing, a dream come true.
Honestly, You know.
Just being able to give back to the people that didn’t even ask for anything out of me.
And Mike says that this act of kindness is just emblematic of who Bryce Underwood is as a person.
That means I had an impact on somebody who’s had an impact on so many people already, Like he’s had an impact on our entire community, And to know that I had a big impact on him where he was willing to do something like that for me makes me feel good as a person.
And now that Bryce will be playing college football at Michigan instead of Lsu, it will mean an easier time for this diehard Wolverines fan to keep a relationship with someone who has changed his life.
You looking forward to watching him in the big house?
Definitely I’m.
I’m so happy he’s going to Michigan Like better than Lsu, right?
