Former MCU actor Jonathan Majors was one of the brightest upcoming stars in Hollywood before his infamous assault and harassment case took him down. Majors was accused by his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari of assaulting her while they were arguing in an SUV last year. Majors was found guilty of assault and harassment in a split verdict.
Jonathan Majors was set to have his sentencing hearing on February 6 but the judge reportedly postponed his hearing to April. The postponement came after the defense filed a motion to set aside the verdict. While nothing has been confirmed, many believe that Majors could be facing up to a year in prison.
Jonathan Majors was on his way to becoming an A-lister in Hollywood after starring in multiple acclaimed indie films as well as in blockbusters such as Creed III. He had hit gold when he was cast as Kang the Conqueror in the MCU, making his debut in the series Loki, and was being set up to be the main antagonist of the MCU’s ‘Multiverse Saga’.
However, everything changed when he was arrested in 2023 after being accused of assault and harassment by ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. The actor denied the charges but was convicted in December in a split verdict. Majors was dropped from many of his commitments, including the MCU as well as his PR and management companies.
Majors, who had declined to testify in court, spoke about his ‘side of the story’ in an interview with ABC News. He mentioned that the altercation between Majors and Jabbari began in an SUV when she saw a message from another woman. She accused him of twisting her arm and injuring her finger, which Majors denied. He had filed a countersuit on her, alleging that he was the one who was assaulted, but it was never pursued.
Jonathan Majors mentioned that the world had stopped for him when he was dropped from the MCU and that he could not believe the verdict despite the evidence. He said,
“I’m standing there and the verdict comes down. I say, ‘How is that possible based of the evidence, based of the prosecution’s evidence, let alone our evidence? How is that possible?… I’m really blessed. I’m surrounded by people who love me, and who care about me. But this has been very, very, very hard, and very difficult, and confusing in many ways.”
The actor also mentioned that picking Jabbari up on that day was the biggest mistake of his life while keeping her in the car was the second.
Jonathan Majors was convicted in December, with a sentencing hearing scheduled for February 6. However, the judge presiding over the case, Judge Michael Gaffey announced that the sentencing hearing was postponed to April as the defense had filed a motion to set aside the verdict. According to Deadline, he gave the District Attorney’s office till March 5 to respond to the motion, with a sentencing hearing scheduled for April 8.
Jonathan Majors reportedly did not appear in the courtroom for the hearing as he was out of state. He joined the hearing virtually and was reminded of the protection order that forbade contact with Grace Jabbari. Majors had denied the assault and harassment charges after he was accused of giving Jabbari injuries, which he could not explain. He said to ABC News,
“She went to grab the phone. I held the phone. I pulled the phone back. She came on top of me, squeezed my face, and slapped me. That’s all I remember…I’m an athlete. I’m a sportsman. I know my body. I know how it moves. I know my strength or lack thereof, you know? None of that was employed on her.”
According to Deadline, Jonathan Majors could face anywhere between probation and a year in prison as he was a first-time offender. The consequences of the conviction have also seeped into his career as he lost out on many upcoming roles and the releases of his finished films have been left without a future.
