Granit Xhaka laughed at Jeremie Frimpong’s title joke after Bayer Leverkusen’s historic Bundesliga win.
Bayer Leverkusen created history last night, Sunday April 14 when Xabi Alonso led them to the first Bundesliga championship in history , after defeating Werder Bremen with a score of 5-0 in round 29.
Former Arsenal star Granit Xhaka was an integral part of Leverkusen’s title-winning squad and he also contributed with a goal in the team’s victory over Die Werderer.
After the match, while celebrating the historic win, Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong trolled Xhaka’s former club as he told the midfielder on his Instagram Live: “We won the title, did Okay! You’re from Arsenal, you won it here.”
Alonso’s side have done the unthinkable – as they are unbeaten in the league this season and ended Bayern Munich’s 11-year winning streak.
The Spanish coach has finally managed to erase the “Neverkusen” curse, an infamous nickname given to the club that finished runners-up four times in the space of six seasons at the turn of the 21st century.
Germany’s newly crowned champions will be in action on Thursday when they take on West Ham in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-finals.
Granit Xhaka, who moved to the BayArena from Arsenal for £21m last summer, could end the season with a treble as Leverkusen also have a DFB-Pokal final against Kaiserslautern in May.
