Following the last entry of James Bond in 2021, No Time to Die, which marked Daniel Craig’s exit as 007, fans have been waiting for future updates regarding the $7.8B franchise. Fan-casting actors like Henry Cavill in the role of the titular spy, netizens have been waiting for more captivating Bond films.

However, following recent updates from James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli, it seems the franchise is almost doomed. Confirming that “nothing is happening yet” via Deadline, Broccoli informed fans that there are no updates on Daniel Craig’s successor. This update seemingly convinced fans that the damage is done, and it’s even beyond Henry Cavill’s capabilities to rectify.

Barbara Broccoli’s Upsetting Update About James Bond Franchise 

It’s been nearly three years since Daniel Craig bid adieu to the $7.8B James Bond franchise, with his last installment No Time to Die in 2021. Since then fans have been eagerly waiting for exciting updates about the future of Ian Fleming’s titular spy character. But unfortunately, fans have often been shut down with upsetting rumors and a lack of confirmation.

Back in November 2023, James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli admitted that it would take them a while before they get things in motion. Especially after the void that was left by Daniel Craig, Broccoli implied that it’s difficult to fill in. Therefore, netizens have been fan-casting popular celebrities like Henry Cavill to fill in the gap and find a suitable replacement for Craig as 007. 

“It’s gonna take a while for us to get — you know, it’s a whole new reinvention. So it’ll take some time.” Broccoli told Variety. 

“Daniel [Craig] gave us the ability to mine the emotional life of the character… I think these movies reflect the time they are in. There’s a big, big road ahead reinventing it for the next chapter and we haven’t even begun with that.” Broccoli told The Guardian. 

Therefore, following such heartbreaking comments that validated the delay in future James Bond installments, Barbara Broccoli upset fans with their failure to overcome Daniel Craig’s absence. 

Netizens Fear the $7.8B Franchise is Doomed Beyond Repair 

Recently, after her previous remarks from 2023, Barbara Broccoli offered new updates to fans. Although fans got excited to witness James Bond making headlines, the producer’s comments seemingly upset fans all over again. Speaking with Deadline, Broccoli noted how they are stuck in one place and nothing is happening in and around the $7.8B franchise. 

“There’s nothing I can tell you about the next Bond film…There’s nothing. Nothing is happening yet.” 

Despite more than two years gap since No Time to Die, as the franchise fails in its hunt for the next best James Bond, fans appear convinced that the franchise is doomed beyond repair. Admitting that there are difficult days ahead for the franchise, netizens on X noted that if nothing is happening with the franchise then it’s better to leave. 

Instead of forcefully trying to milk the franchise and capitalizing on Ian Fleming’s novels, fans believe it’s better to leave the franchise as it is after 25 films under Eon Production and 2 Non-Eon films. Realizing that when the producers are failing to find a way to continue the franchise, netizens believe even Henry Cavill, who is being repeatedly fan-cast as Bond, can’t save it if given an opportunity. 

Therefore, losing all hope after Barbara Broccoli’s latest update, fans are convinced that there’s nothing left in the franchise to look ahead to. Claiming that the good old Bond days are gone, netizens agreed that it’s better to put the franchise at rest than make unnecessary movies and ruin the beauty of it.
