Fans saw Sir Alex Ferguson’s response to Antony, a failure for Manchester United, during their FA Cup game against Nottingham Forest.
During the first half at the City Ground, Bruno Fernandes tried to change the game by sending a long ball over to the Brazilian on the far side of the pitch.
But it was hit too far, and Antony couldn’t run to get it before it was out of play.
When Antony praised Fernandes for the pass, the camera zoomed in on his face.
Then it cut to Ferguson, 82, the famous manager of Manchester United. He had a short conversation with Sir Dave Brailsford, the new manager of Birmingham City.
Fergie and Brailsford both laughed to themselves and then turned back to what was going on in the game.
Some people on social media think that the famous head coach was making fun of Antony.
One stated: “Ferguson’s reaction after Anthony’s blunder .”
Another person said, “Even Ferguson doesn’t know what country Antony is from.”
Three people answered, “Even Ferguson is sick of Antony’s nonsense .”
Antony’s 20 months at Manchester United have been a nightmare since he arrived from Ajax for £85.5 million in the summer of 2022.
In 70 games for Erik ten Hag’s team, he has only scored nine goals and set up four others.
He has only helped score two goals in 26 games this season, both of which came in the 4-2 FA Cup win over Newport.
It was said earlier this week that Antony is in a tough spot to keep his Manchester United job.
He came on with very little time left in Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Fulham.
And Ten Hag said after the game that it wasn’t because he wasn’t fit, but because the team chose him.
Manchester United’s manager said, “It had nothing to do with fitness.” We have a lot of options on the right side, but we are short on players in other spots because of injuries.
“We all know Antony is in bad shape and have told him to step up.” Training shows it, but Omari Forson, Amad Diallo, and Garnacho also deserve to play.
He has a point to make, and he will be able to do it. He has a lot of potential, but he hasn’t shown it much lately. I know what his skill is, and it’s up to him to show it.
“He will likely get his chances, but I think that was always the plan. There are competitions, and now he has to show what he can do on the training pitch, just like everyone else.”
“That gives us chances because [Amad] Diallo is back from injury and training well, and Omar is also doing well.”
“We have options to fill in those positions, it’s not set that Marcus Rashford has to play as a center forward.”
