Rabat – Moroccan-born football player Brahim Diaz put forth a dazzling performance during the Madrid Derby on February 4 which ended in a draw at the Santiago Bernabeu. Post match, Moroccan fans lauded his efforts, appealing for the player to represent their national team.
On social networks, Diaz has caused quite a few Moroccans to react. Some netizens shared posts on their X account, formerly Twitter, pleading with the player.
One of many netizens stated: “Brahim Diaz’s level with Real Madrid is incredible. Please, play for Morocco.”
Some even conveyed a message to the Moroccan head coach Walid Regragui. “Regragui, if you call up Brahim Diaz, all Moroccans will forgive you [for the recent defeat in AFCON],” one user posted.
The Spanish-Moroccan forward was a key figure in Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti’s starting team. Taking advantage of teammate Vinicius JR’s absence due to an injury sustained in the warm-up, Diaz seized the opportunity to start in the official lineup.
During the 23rd day of La Liga, which Real Madrid hosted, Diaz opened the scoring for his Spanish squad in the 20th minute, before Marcos Llorente tied the score in the 93rd minute for Atletico Madrid.
In the second half, Diaz was on the verge of scoring a second goal which football enthusiasts claim could have been considered as the goal of the season. Yet, after a skillful nutmeg and a hook, the 24-year-old player missed the shot.
On Sofascore, the player had a score of 8.4, second only to Toni Kroos (8.6). He even received a standing ovation from the fans at the Bernabeu that evening.
