Excavated 2,000 year old tomb, “caught” a lion weighing 1 ton and a mountain of gold

According to Tien Phong newspaper , in 1976, during the construction of Yuergou station, railway workers dug up many ancient tombs. In the first phase, they excavated a total of more than 20 large and small tombs, including many bronze and ceramic objects, but none of them had significant archaeological value.

Xinjiang Institute of Cultural Relics and Archeology said that these ancient tombs belong to the period from the Spring and Autumn Warring States period to the Qin and Han dynasties, and the owners of the tombs are all ethnic minorities. item.

In the following period, more and more ancient tombs were excavated in the area, reaching more than 80 tombs. In particular, among these there is an extremely large tomb, and the amount of gold, silver and treasures found in this tomb is also countless, it can be said to be unprecedented. And this mausoleum is therefore called the “Golden Tomb”.

Among the ancient tombs here, there is one that is most special. Specifically, the “Golden Tomb” is 7.1 meters deep, about 6.56 meters long, and 4.22 meters wide. This is a vertical mausoleum, covered with pebbles, rough and simple in shape, reflecting the ancient nomadic lifestyle. There were 8 gold medallions engraved with tiger images, 4 gold belts shaped like tigers, a gold medallion shaped like a lion and more than 200 other gold ornaments such as gold beads and gold flowers discovered in the tomb.

After finding this “mysterious” tomb, archaeologists also discovered unique lacquer “treasures” here.

Unfortunately, the results of the “Golden Tomb” excavation have not been announced in detail for many different special reasons. However, this makes the public even more curious and interested in it.
