The mound, found in the village of Nikolskoye in the Astrakhan Region, contained the remains of Sarmatian nobles as well as a horse head and many gold jewelry.

“Thanks to these findings, we can understand what happened here at the beginning of civilization,” said Sergey Morozov, head of the Astrakhan Region.

Farmer Rustam Mudayev was digging a hole near his house when he found the copper pot.

He handed over the pot to the authorities, before archaeologists returned to the site to conduct excavations.

So far, excavation has revealed three burials with human remains, as well as countless household items, weapons and gold jewelry, and a horse head in a decorative suit of armor.

According to experts, this is a sign that the tomb owner’s status is quite high.

Archaeologists are planning to study this site more closely. The mound has multiple levels, and the archaeological team believes there may be additional items, or even remains, buried within it.

This is not the first time archaeologists have discovered items from the 6th century BC in this area. About 30 years ago, similar burials were discovered in the nearby village of Kosika, including the tomb of the Sarmatian king. These findings are in the collection at the Astrakhan State Museum, and archaeologists We hope new discoveries will be brought there.
