Dak Prescott Opens Up about the Challenges of Being the Cowboys QB in Candid Interview with Former Coach Jason Garrett

2023 has really been one of the best years for Dak Prescott to date. He is having his best season as an NFL quarterback and owing to his performance, the Dallas Cowboys are 9-3 this season, the team has never looked this good since their 1995-96 season.

In his personal life as well, Prescott is thriving. He is going to become a father very soon. He sat down with former HC Jason Garrett and spoke on the Cowboys season and opened up on the pressure of being the quarterback for America’s team.

Jason Garrett was there when the Cowboys drafted Prescott and has been there since his first NFL game. He has seen the QB grow in front of him and was curious to know more about the lesser-known side of what it takes to be in his shoes. The quarterback expressed his gratitude for being in such a position and stated,

I'm blessed for this opportunity, this platform, it's a nice steak dinner but a lot of things come with it and a lot of things you get blindsided by and scrutinies for one.

The steak dinner was a reference to Troy Aikman stating that while it is a privilege to be the QB for the Cowboys, it comes with its own set of problems. The quarterback acknowledged that his job comes with its share of cons but his values and commitment to himself have helped him remain level-headed and thrive for his team.

His philosophy is simple: when he holds himself to such high standards, it becomes irrelevant what others have to say. Prescott stated,

I've always held myself to a high standard so nobody's the biggest critic other than I am on my game. I know what I should have done. So when it doesn't match up to that, it's easy to block out, it's easy to say no and if it does, yeah I know where I messed up.

Critics will always be around and call him out over the smallest of errors but it will have no impact on Dak Prescott because he would have already understood when he makes an error and what he will need to do to prevent making that mistake in the future. All that the critics are doing is basically telling him what he already has told himself. That way, he does not let all the noise get to him.

His philosophy is clearly working this season. He has thrown for 3,234 yards, 26 touchdowns, the most in the NFL, 6 interceptions, and is close to having the best QBR in the league. The MVP frontrunner has shut the door around any question that may have remained around his ability to put the Cowboys in a position to possible make the Super Bowl.

Dak Prescott concluded,

The best part is really just being able to have such a reach, to be able to inspire others, tell my story, to overcome adversity, to really just give and serve the community...

This ought to be the most admirable quality of this young man. He is grateful for the position he is in and has done everything possible to help the community and uplift it by serving them. Be it through charity or by visiting the less fortunate, Prescott has shown that he is the ideal quarterback for a franchise with as rich of a heritage and history as the Dallas Cowboys.

This Sunday, he faces one of his biggest challenges this season as he will look to finally lead his team past the Philadelphia Eagles in a bid to capture the top spot in the NFC East.
