Despite all the outside noise surrounding quarterback Dak Prescott, the Dallas Cowboys have stuck by him. Not only that, if he manages to end the 2023 season on a high note, he might end up being the highest-paid player in football. For his constant growth and confidence, Dallas has to thank Tom Brady and LeBron James.
According to Prescott, he followed the work ethic of superstars such as Brady and James, which helped them play for long periods. Their success is for everyone to see, with the retired NFL QB winning seven Super Bowls while the NBA legend has four championship titles in his name. In an interview with ESPN’s Todd Archer, Prescott said,
You’re always looking at greats and what they’re doing, and you see guys like LeBron (James), Tom Brady, who have these methods and spend millions of dollars on their bodies each year, and you wonder why. And it’s obvious when they’re playing that, as long as they play at such a high level, that’s what they need to do to feel comfortable. So for me, it’s about making sure—yeah, I leave no stone unturned.
Brady finished his career when he was 45, and James is going strong at 38. As for Dak, he recently hit 30 and is also looking forward to the birth of his first child. While quarterbacks tend to play deep into their careers, injuries tend to prevent them from doing so.
Prescott has suffered a couple of nibbles in the past. His 2020 season ended after just five games due to a dislocated ankle. Moreover, his calf and hamstring have been a cause for concern for a while, which has affected his mobility, forcing him to adapt to being a more pocket player.
Before the start of the season, there was only one statistic that haunted Dak Prescott. It was his horrible interception record from 2022 (15). Prescott only played 12 games because of a thumb injury that kept him out for more than 6 weeks.
The Cowboys have played 12 games this season with a 9-3 record. In that time, he has completed 288/411 passes for 3,234 yards, for a completion percentage of 70.1%. Not only that, Dak Prescott leads the NFL with 26 touchdowns, and most importantly, he has only thrown six picks (also 2 rushing TDs).
So in the same number of games as last season, the two-time Pro Bowler has not only upped his game but is also one of the favorites for the Most Valuable Player award. He will be put to the test against his NFC East rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, on Monday night.
