Glen Powell is living the glorious days of his career with his recent hits shining on his resume. The Top Gun: Maverick star joining forces with Tom Cruise and Miles Teller established a nice blending of characters as the movie went on to gross $1.496 billion at the global box office.
Certainly, it was the greatest success of Powell’s career, but his recent standalone romantic comedy Anyone But You hitting the $100 million mark was another milestone to his credit. While promoting his collaboration with the celebrated director Richard Linklater in the action comedy Hit Man at the Sundance Film Festival, the actor sheds light on Top Gun 3.

Glen Powell Reflected On Top Gun 3
Resurrecting Top Gun after about 36 years was perhaps the greatest decision of the year at Paramount. Tom Cruise as Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell has almost the same intensive action, which led to the astounding box office numbers reaching above the one billion dollar mark against the $170 million production budget.
In its essence, the critical reception of the movie was also largely positive. So, Paramount was bound to make room for another sequel of the mega-action franchise, if not more. Following the grand reception of Top Gun: Maverick, reports of the development of the third installment excited fans. Now, Glen Powell, who played LT Jake “Hangman” Seresin, reflected on the upcoming movie.
“People looked at me like I knew what was going on. There is going to be some fun stuff being announced soon…but it was confidential to me. I talk to [Joseph] Kosinski, Cruise, and Jerry [Bruckheimer] all the time. There is stuff happening and it sounds very exciting. I don’t know when I’ll be going back…I’m sure there is a jet waiting for me sometime in the future,” Powell said (via Variety).
Powell’s comments were, however, diminishing to a large extent as it went on to cast doubt on the process of the development, keeping it confidential to the actor. So, the question immediately arises: Will Powell have more screen time or less than he had in the second installment? Only further updates will unfold more details.

Glen Powell Initially Rejected Top Gun: Maverick, Here’s Why
It’s hard to believe that Powell initially rejected Top Gun: Maverick despite Cruise calling him. For Powell, the original Top Gun has been one of his favorite action movies, and Cruise is the inspiration to get into acting. Appearing on CBS Mornings, the actor candidly admitted that he initially turned down the movie. “I originally auditioned for Miles Teller’s role, which was the son of Goose,” Powell said.
“And then you know the role wasn’t that great on the page and then I got to sit down with Tom who kind of told me his approach to making movies. He said and I said, uh, he goes, all right look, ‘dude I know you don’t want to do the movie. What kind of career do you want to have?’ I was like, ‘Dude you.’ Man, he’s like, ‘Well, do you know how I do that?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, you choose great roles.’ He goes, ‘No I choose great movies and I make the roles great.’ And so we got to basically make this role together which was kind of a dream come true.”
Soon, Powell put his soul into the movie, training hard and eventually getting a pilot license to fly these aviators. Although it was on his bucket list, the movie clearly fastened the process. Top Gun: Maverick is available to stream on Prime Video.
