3 Things to Know About Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s 6 Kids
Angelina Jolie has legally dropped Brad Pitt‘s last name after a judge ruled them as single.
The actress officially cut “Pitt” from her legal name, Angelina Jolie Pitt, in court papers filed on Friday, going back to Angelina Jolie.
The same ruling declared both actors legally single while they continue to work out their divorce settlement — a legal move known as bifurcation that the former couple requested.
Pitt, 55, and Jolie, 43, married in 2014 and filed for divorce in 2016 after first meeting in 2004. The couple shares six children — Maddox, 17, Pax, 15, Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 12, and 10-year-olds Vivienne and Knox.
“Both parents are focused on what’s best for the kids,” a source told PEOPLE after the bifurcation was confirmed.
The move to change her name comes as Jolie is readying a return to the big screen this fall. The Oscar winner is set to reprise her title role in Disney’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil alongside Elle Fanning and Michelle Pfeiffer. Filming for the sequel took place in London and wrapped last year.
Jolie is also continuing her advocacy work and recently spoke at the United Nations for her Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative (PSVI), which aims to curb rape as a weapon in both war and among those fleeing it.

Jolie is a UNHCR Special Envoy who helps advocate for refugees fleeing war-torn countries and has long used her platform to become one of the leading worldwide voices on women’s empowerment and safety.
“I try to speak for what I believe in,” Jolie recently told PEOPLE of her causes. Currently, one of those causes is changing laws that treat women around the world like “second class citizens.”
