There are many reasons why Cruise’s co-stars like working with him. Some of the most popular words that come to mind of those that Cruise has worked with, however, are things like thoughtfulness, kindness, and generosity. “That was definitely one of those surreal experiences,” director Tom Goddard said about meeting and working with Cruise. “It was wonderful. I mean, Tom Cruise — at least in my experience with him — I’ve never met a more enthusiastic, creative, and supportive person.”

Goddard went on to say, “He has that energy and to feel that energy directed towards you about you, it’s like a drug. It’s wonderful.”

Not only is Cruise known for bringing out the best in others and doing what he can to help facilitate that happening, but he is also known for this curious habit as well.

Famous Friends Of Tom Are Baffled By His Odd Habit

After working with Cruise, those who have built a relationship with him have had the fortune of experiencing a yearly habit that he has. This habit is sending a coconut cake around the holidays and once on the list, those who have received the cake do not ever want to be kicked off of it.

The list of people who receive the cake is some of Hollywood’s elite. From Tom Hanks, Angela Bassett, Dakota and Elle Fanning, Jon Hamm, Miles Teller, and more, all of these stars gush when the cake arrives.

In fact, the cake is so delicious that it does not always make it to its recipient, something that Graham Norton was made aware of after learning from his staff that Cruise had been sending it to him for years.

“I didn’t know we were on the Tom Cruise Cake List ’til today!” Norton said in 2019 while interviewing Renee Zelwegger.

“I was talking about you being on the cake list and somebody said ‘Oh, yeah, we get a cake from Tom every year,’ and I went, ‘Do we? I’ve never seen the bloody cake.’”

As it turns out, Norton’s office staff loved the cake so much that Norton never had even known it existed.

But, just as quickly as people can get added to the list, they can be removed by Cruise just as quickly.

This is exactly what happened to Brooke Shields, who was on Cruise’s cake list for a decade. Then, Shields was suddenly removed without an explanation as to why.

Those who receive the cake may wonder just why Cruise has this yearly holiday tradition. While it is generous and kind to do, the reason why Cruise gifts cakes may be because he cannot have them himself.

Cruise is a very generous man. But when it comes to giving cakes, it may be a bit of a self-serving deed. This is because Cruise cannot eat sugar due to his filming schedule.

“I like to send people cakes and stuff like that,” Cruise explained. “I love sugar, but I can’t eat it because when I’m training… I’ve got all these movies. So I send it to everyone.”

This is how you look so good,” James Corden exclaimed when hearing Cruise’s explanation. “You make everyone around you fat.”

Fans seemed to find the reason why Cruise gifts the cakes versus eating them himself, comical.

Regardless of how accomplished an actor is, one thing is clear, Hollywood wants to be on Cruise’s cake list. While many get on it from working with Cruise, others have made it on and do not know why.
