In the folklore or legends of any people or country, there are stories about human entities in monstrous forms. One of the most popular entities is the ” Giant “.
Chinese culture is no exception, even the appearance of giants is recorded in historical documents and there is suspicion that they influenced even Qin Shi Huang .
In the “Book of Mandarin” it is said that, during the Spring and Autumn period, when China still had many warring vassal states, the state of Wu attacked the state of Yue (a vassal of the Zhou Dynasty), easily overcoming Coi Ke citadel (now part of the Zhou dynasty). Zhejiang).
Afterwards, King Ngo’s army found a skeleton equivalent to a human bone but very large in size. They wondered whether it belonged to a human or a monster, but they still sent it back to Ngo. The transportation process required a skeleton. The ship is quite large. King Wu even sent people to consult Confucius in hopes of getting an answer.
Confucius replied that it was a secret giant . In the past, Ha Vu (a monarch of China’s Xia Dynasty, famous for water management) convened a meeting between tribal leaders at Coi Ke Mountain. The leader of the tribe called “Phong Phong” tribe arrived late and was executed.
Part of this leader’s bones were also removed to make a cart because his bones were so large. This tribe is located in the Anhui area, there is a town full of giants there.
About this incident, Sima Qian also recorded in his book “History”. And Sima Qian was a very strict and meticulous historian, so the fact that he recorded this event shows that it must have had a specific basis.
Qin Shi Huang cast the treasure because he believed in giants?
Another story related to the existence of ancient giants in China is the belief in that existence of emperor Qin Shi Huang. Regarding the twelve large bronze statues that he once ordered to be cast. In the “Han Shu” it is described as “large statues, 5 truong high (1 truong is about 3.3 meters), there are 6 statues standing in a row and there are two rows of such statues. All are cast from number of bronze weapons obtained after the unification of the world”.
“The Book of Han” also confirms that in the year Qin Shi Huang unified China, there were people about five feet tall with a somewhat strange appearance who appeared near Thao Ha River. Qin Shi Huang thought this was a sign of good omen, so he ordered statues to be cast in their likeness.

“The Book of Han” is always considered a serious historical record so it is highly reliable. It is described in chapter 99, the part of Vuong Mang’s story as follows: “In the spring of the 6th year (during the reign of Vuong Mang, about the year 14-15 AD) there was more looting, including monstrous people participating, they were called scary giants, most came from Penglai district (now in Shandong), a 3 or 4 horse chariots cannot stop these people…”
In the 14th year of Vuong Mang’s reign (ie 23 AD), the world was in great chaos, uprisings broke out everywhere, the nomadic Huns approached the border, the tribes also rebelled, Han Bo (a Minister under Wang Mang) went to negotiate with a tribe in Shandong, he described to Wang Mang that “this tribe in Pengshan, Shandong, is so big that a three-horse carriage cannot pull it.” If they were allowed to sit, they used a large drum as a pillow to sleep, ate with iron chopsticks, wore clothes made from tiger skin, had to bow their heads when passing through the city gate,…”

Not only “The Book of Han”, the book “The Book of Later Han” also has records of people with strange and large appearances. “Later, when Vuong Mang led troops to suppress an uprising by Luc Lam and Liu Huyen, this people supported Vuong Mang.
Vuong Mang stationed troops in Shandong, numbering up to 400,000. When he attacked the city, this tribe in Banh Son also came to help, even bringing horses, elephants, and tigers to help Vuong Mang’s army fight the enemy. But the rebellion failed, Vuong Mang’s army was destroyed, this tribe also fled and disbanded.
Archaeologists have unearthed giant skeletons dating back a long time (Photo: daydaynews.cc)
In March 2005, an archaeological team discovered and excavated a tomb in the northwest of the Taklamakan Desert area of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in China. According to the assessment, it is a tomb dating from the Sui to Tang dynasties.
There are a total of 5 coffins with male skeletons up to 2.3 meters long and 1.9 meters long for females.
From the above historical documents, it is very likely that the giant race may have existed in various periods of Chinese history.
However, these are images and documents that still need to be verified by modern archaeologists. The story of giants in history still remains many mysteries.
