Erling Haaland left the field before the penalty shootout in Man City’s match against Real Madrid in the Champions League. He missed Man City’s 1-0 win over Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-finals. The Norwegian player continued to be absent in the latest 4-0 win against Brighton.
Pep Guardiola has previously described Haaland’s injury as a muscular problem. When asked if Haaland could play at the weekend, Guardiola said: “I don’t know. I don’t know, I talked to him yesterday and he told me he felt better. He feels better. But I don’t know if he’s ready to play or not.”
However, Man City fans were given a boost on Friday afternoon after the club confirmed that Haaland had attended a training session with his team-mates. Haaland will have one more day to recover before Man City comes to meet Nottingham Forest.
The Norwegian international is also vying to win the Premier League Golden Boot for the second consecutive season having scored 20 goals so far. Chelsea’s Cole Palmer has also scored 20 Premier League goals, while Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins has scored 19. Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke (18), Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (17) are next.
Man City is currently ranked second in the Premier League rankings, 1 point behind Arsenal but has played 1 match less. Mikel Arteta’s team will visit Tottenham’s field, before Man City meets Nottingham Forest.
