Manchester United squandered another late lead at Old Trafford after drawing 1-1 with Burnley on Saturday afternoon (April 27).
The hosts took the lead in the second half thanks to Antony, but Vincent Kompany’s side equalized late on with a Zeki Amdouni penalty.
The Red Devils remain sixth in the Premier League, six points behind fifth-place Tottenham.
Player Ratings
Andre Onana[7]
United continued to concede chances and shots, but Onana made six stops during the game, including a remarkable instinctive stop to deny the visitors on the verge of halftime. However, the Cameroon international squandered another clean sheet by allowing a late penalty.
Diogo Dalot [5].
Did well in an unusual left-back position, but struggled to generate opportunities with a couple wayward touches. Clearly uncomfortable with his left foot, he became far too predictable in the final third. Composed on the ball, only losing possession five times.
Harry Maguire[8]
Quickly becoming one of the first names on United’s team roster. Maguire maintained his impressive form after scoring in his previous two games. He remained composed on the ball while dominating in the air. He finished the match with a perfect record in aerial duels.
Casemiro (5)
A short-term solution to United’s centre-back dilemma. His passing range and ball control help United play out of the back, but Casemiro has a tendency to rush into a challenge, leaving the defense susceptible.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka (3)
United’s right wing, along with Antony, offered little in terms of attacking movement. Wan-Bissaka appeared afraid to shoot in the last third, resulting in numerous missed opportunities. With Wan-Bissaka struggling offensively, a move for a new right back this summer is probable.
Kobbie Mainoo (6)
A number of outstanding touches and passes highlighted the first half of the game. However, Mainoo slumped after the break, appearing to be in severe need of recuperation.
Christian Eriksen[6]
For the first time since January, he has started two Premier League games in a row. Eriksen brings a sense of serenity to this United team while in control, but he is too easily beat and dribbled past in the middle of midfield.
Anthony [5]
After a bustling start, it appeared Antony’s nightmare run in front of goal would continue, with a few opportunities squandered. However, the Brazilian redeemed himself with a late winner, his second league goal at Old Trafford since his £85 million transfer.
Bruno Fernandes[6]
A skipper in top form. Fernandes was once again at the heart of nearly every opportunity produced for United. The Portuguese playmaker created three great chances and completed 80% of his passes, but was denied an assist by a poor front three.
Alejandro Garnacho [3].
Wasteful and greedy. United’s young diamond is definitely full of confidence, but he is too eager to have his name in lights, and it cost his team here. Garnacho conceded possession 12 times against the Clarets.
Rasmus Hojlund [2]
Isolated and deprived of service. The young Dane continued to make darting sprints into the box, but neither Garnacho nor Antony seemed interested in finding him. However, Hojlund’s first touch is frequently poor, and he needs to find a way to get more engaged in games with only 14 touches so far.
SUBSTITUTES
Scott McTominay [6] – Called on to score the winning goal. McTominay made his typical late dashes into the box but was not given a clean opportunity during his brief appearance.
Amad Diallo [5] – Struggled to make an impression in the game, but his pace posed a threat as United attempted to counter-attack.
Sofyan Amrabat [] – Came on late to replace Eriksen and keep the lead until Onana conceded the penalty.
Mason Mount [] – Unknown.
