Roberto De Zerbi claims that there is one aspect of Man City about which he disagrees with Pep Guardiola.
The manager of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola, recently made a statement that Roberto De Zerbi said he disagreed with.
The Manchester team will play an away game against Brighton & Hove Albion on Thursday to resume Premier League action after playing two crucial games in the FA Cup and Champions League.
The Seagulls boss disclosed one area in which he and Guardiola had differed before to this match.
Speaking at his most recent news conference in advance of tomorrow’s encounter at the AMEX Stadium, De Zerbi made this statement in response to Guardiola’s claim that his players were very fatigued after playing 120 minutes against Real Madrid in the FA Cup three days before.
“They are tired?,” he asked. Not in my opinion. They are used to playing a lot of games since they played Chelsea on Saturday and it is Thursday tomorrow.
ADVANCED CITY STORIES
We believe that it would have taken a toll on the players’ bodies and minds for City to lose on penalties after they produced 846 precise passes and 33 attempts on goal during their 1-1 draw with Carlo Ancelotti’s team last week.
Given that Chelsea has one of the smaller rosters in the Premier League, it makes sense why Guardiola believed his players were not at their best when they faced them, particularly considering they had to fly to Wembley three days later to play in a semi-final.
Is De Zerbi justified in challenging Guardiola?
Although De Zerbi is correct that City is used to playing a lot of games throughout the season, we believe that any team would find it difficult to compete at Wembley three days after playing 120 minutes.
Hopefully, the City team will have recovered enough from their Thursday match to have a strong team that might contend for a repeat Premier League victory.
