3 M.U stars were criticized for not protecting young talent Kobbie Mainoo under Erik ten Hag

Rio Ferdinand has criticized Manchester United players for failing to provide adequate protection to Kobbie Mainoo on a weekly basis.

At just 18 years old, Mainoo’s ascent this season has been monumental. In his debut campaign, he has already started nineteen games for both club and country, securing a spot in the England squad for Euro 2024.

Since his Premier League debut in November, Mainoo has become a fixture on Erik ten Hag’s team sheet. However, due to Ten Hag’s tactics and United’s ongoing injury crisis, Mainoo has lacked a consistent midfield partner to support him.

Despite playing alongside Scott McTominay, Casemiro, and Christian Eriksen in midfield, with Bruno Fernandes also present, Mainoo has been left exposed in some matches, leading to concerns of overwork and insufficient protection, both physically and mentally.

Ferdinand, a six-time Premier League winner with United, voiced his concerns over the lack of support for Mainoo from the coaches and players. He emphasized the importance of protecting young players like Mainoo, highlighting the need for older players and coaches to ensure his safety and success, particularly in crucial matches like the upcoming one against Liverpool.
