Hollywood icon Tom Cruise and Impossible 7 co-star Hayley Atwell sparked dating rumours after being seen getting close during filming, yet Hayley has shut them down as she said their relationship is purely “platonic”.
The actress, who is engaged to music producer Ned Wolfgang Kelly, stars in the last Mission: Impossible film, which is set to be released next month.
During filming for the flick, it was reported Tom, 60, and Hayley, 41, enjoyed a romance. They were seen smiling together in the Royal Box at Wimbledon during the 2021 tournament.
But the romance was over by the end of summer last year – only for speculation to be sparked again in July 2022 that they had got back together after Hayley appeared alongside Tom at the premiere of Top Gun: Maverick in London.
However, it was later claimed Hayley had dumped Tom for Ned, whom she is now engaged to.
A source told The Sun on Sunday at the time: “Tom and Hayley’s relationship was genuine.
“In spite of some rumours to the contrary, it was never just for the cameras. Unfortunately it hasn’t worked out for them.
“They get on really well, and have fantastic chemistry, which is why they decided to quietly give the relationship another try earlier this year.”
Three years on the friendship between the pals is still going strong, with Hayley declaring “platonic love” for her former co-star.
Whilst the relationship is purely friendship now, the pair stayed silent as rumours grew during filming that Hayley and Tom were more than just friends . But, Hayley has since discussed her bond with the actor.
Speaking to Country & Townhouse, Hayley addressed the relationship rumours as she said: “I felt like if I ever was worried about it, I could talk to him [Tom].
“And I know that he would’ve said, ‘People say whatever they want to say, but you know who you are, I know who I am and I want you to feel safe in this environment.”
She also described her relationship with her Mission: Impossible 7 co-star as she revealed there was no romance there but Tom had shown her the “extraordinary power of platonic love”.
She later added: “And my love for Tom, my love for the process of this [Mission], and also the people who they keep very close to them and who are very present on set, has a wholesomeness to it. That for me, I just found so beautiful, so, yeah, I can freely say ‘I love this group of people’.”
Last month Hayley said yes to boyfriend Ned Wolfgang Kelly’s marriage proposal after he got down on one knee after a whirlwind romance since meeting last year.
Announcing the engagement, Ned shared the happy news via his Instagram as the pair holidayed in Venice.
He wrote: “Lucky me. Arrived in Venice at 10am, around midday the love of my life and I got engaged in the kitchen of this strange apartment surrounded by ducks, with a bloke outside the window murdering “My Way” on the accordion.
