“We stole our mother’s dining room table”: Henry Cavill’s Obsession With Warhammer Led Him Down a Path That Makes His Mother “Unhappy” to This Day

Henry Cavill is undoubtedly one of the most beloved action heroes of his generation. Over the more than past two decades of his career, he has appeared in a variety of movies and shows. From Zack Snyder’s DC superhero movie Man of Steel to the fantasy drama Netflix series The Witcher, his projects have been quite versatile.

Although Cavill has a reputation as an action hero and anything apart from that with his jacked-up physique might seem hard to believe, the actor is also a nerd. He has admitted as much on numerous occasions, not to mention that there are hints of it on his social media page.

Much like any other nerd, he has some obsessions that everyone might not understand. One such obsession is the game Warhammer 40,000. It sounds absolutely harmless, but while on the topic of games in an interview, he revealed something he did as a child that still upsets his mother.

Hailing from Jersey in the Channel Islands, Henry Cavill is the fourth of five boys brought up by mother Marianne Dalgliesh, a former bank secretary, and father Colin Cavill, a former stockbroker. He grew up in a time when technology was neither as advanced nor as necessary as it is today.

While the actor was active in both sports and drama since his teen years, he was also a fan of the game Warhammer 40,000. It was specifically the late ’80s and early ’90s that he spent playing the game as he revealed in an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live recently.

In the interview, Cavill also went on to reveal how he and his brothers ended up making their mother upset. He said:

“Weirdly enough my brothers and I all have PCS when we’re growing up and we we stole our mother’s dining room table um which she’s still unhappy about and we just put all our PCS on there and connected them by cable and play games that way to play games.”

The actor seems to have had fun with his brothers when they were children even if it came at the cost of upsetting their mother because they probably didn’t know better.

In December 2022, not long after he officially exited DCU as Superman, Deadline reported Amazon Studios officially announced that it had secured global rights to the Warhammer 40,000 game from Games Workshop. Cavill is not only going to star in but also executive produce the franchise.

This must be a dream come true for the actor who has been an ardent fan of the game since a young age. Reflecting on this accomplishment, he said:

“The opportunity to shepherd this cinematic universe from its inception is quite the honor and the responsibility. I couldn’t be more grateful for all the hard work put in by Vertigo, Amazon Studios and Games Workshop to make this happen. One step closer to making a nigh-on lifelong dream come true.”

The Enola Holmes star has truly come a long way from being a fan of the game to becoming an active member involved in the adaptation of the game.
