Instagram fan artist jscomicart presents his version of what Henry Cavill would look like in a more classic Superman costume.
Henry Cavill may be confirmed to be returning as Superman for Man of Steel 2, but that doesn’t mean fans can agree on what his iconic costume should look like when he does. Going by the tag jscomicart, Instagram fan artist Javier Sanchez posted the above image edited to make the Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice star look like he’s wearing something a lot closer to the comics. The artist asked his followers to vote for the kind of costume they’d prefer to see when Cavill returns.
Like more modern screen versions of Superman, Sanchez has his version without the trademark red shorts; though they have been reintroduced in the comics. Meanwhile, his version of Man of Steel 2‘s Henry Cavill sports a much more old school insignia; with a gold outline and a black interior around the S. It doesn’t seem very likely this is the costume we’d get for upcoming Kal-El appearances in the films, but you really never know.
After a too-long five year absence from the big screen as Superman in a DCEU canonical film, Henry Cavill made a cameo as his signature superhero in this year’s Black Adam. After the film’s opening weekend was over, Cavill took to social media to confirm that he was back as Superman for more than just a cameo. Most believe that the near future of his DCEU appearances will include Man of Steel 2.
Thankfully, our own sources were able to confirm for us that Henry Cavill will indeed be making Man of Steel 2. Along with finally giving fans a sequel to the 2013 film that introduced his version of Superman, our sources say the deal Cavill signed also has him committed to appearing in Black Adam 2 and Justice League 2. There are rumors that co-chairman and co-CEO of DC Studios, James Gunn, could be directing Cavill in his next solo outing.
It will be interesting to see exactly how audiences respond to Henry Cavill’s return in Man of Steel 2. While Cavill is an accomplished actor and certainly looks the part, many fans were unhappy with what they saw as a darker, more brooding take on the character. With filmmaker Zack Snyder no longer involved with the films–or presumably with DC Studios at all–that may change.
While we all wait to hear exactly when we’ll get to see Henry Cavill in Man of Steel 2–in whichever costume he wears–you can see him now as the world’s most famous detective (no, not Batman) in Netflix’s Enola Holmes 2. He’ll also reprise the role of Geralt of Rivia next summer in Season 3 of The Witcher though it will be Cavill’s final season playing the part.
