Argylle is ready to spy on the digital world. The star-studded eponymous action comedy featuring Henry Cavill and Bryce Dallas Howard confirms its streaming release.
Per Screen Rant, Apple Original Films has announced that Argylle will become available for streaming via Apple TV+ on Apr. 12. The film’s streaming debut comes a little over two months after its theatrical debut. To mark Argylle‘s Apple TV+ release, K-Pop group THE BOYZ released their version of Ariana DeBose’s single from the movie, “Electric Energy.”

Directed by Matthew Vaughn, Argylle chronicles the story of real-life author Elly Conway (Howard), a reclusive spy novelist drawn into real-world scenarios that mirror the stories she writes about as she finds herself too close to a crime syndicate. The film also introduces audiences to Agent Aubrey Argylle (Cavill) and a younger version of himself, played by Louis Partridge.
Argylle Struggled at the Box Office
Despite boasting an all-star cast including Sam Rockwell, Samuel L. Jackson, Catherine O’Hara, Bryan Cranston, Dua Lipa and John Cena, Argylle struggled to garner much buzz critically or commercially. The film generated negative critical reviews (32% on Rotten Tomatoes), with the film’s plot, runtime and CGI use coming under heavy scrutiny. Additionally, Argylle failed to recoup half of its $200 million budget at the international box office, earning just $96 million in ticket sales.

Argylle takes a more comedic approach to the spy film genre, taking jabs at tropes often associated with such movies. Additionally, the movie was a departure from typical Vaughn-led films as it had a PG-13 rating, something that frustrated the director given the constraints he dealt with when making it. Argylle modeled its titular secret agent after James Bond, which is fitting considering Cavill nearly played 007 in Casino Royale before the role ultimately went to Daniel Craig.
Vaughn intends to make Argylle the first of a trilogy, with the sequel based on a recently released novel by Conway, while the threequel includes details Vaughn isn’t willing to divulge yet. This past February, Vaughn confirmed the sequel would be a prequel focused on the formative years of Agent Argylle’s life, with Partridge reprising his role as the younger version of the eponymous spy. Vaughn has also signaled his intent to cross over the Argylle film series with the Kingsman franchise and an unnamed franchise, with characters from the three worlds connected.
Argylle premieres via Apple TV+ on Apr. 12.
