The Reds’ main man, Mohamed Salah, scored a major goal in the second half in the 65th minute after a lovely assist from Alexis Mac Allister.

Liverpool moved three clear of Arsenal and four clear of City as they held on for three crucial points.

Even so, Liverpool supporters were not pleased with Cody Gakpo, who replaced Diaz in the closing moments, despite their crucial victory.

One admirer posted on social media, asking if Torres was still active. If so, put Gakpo back on and proceed.

“Cody Gakpo has become a liability every time he comes on,” a third fan commented.

Another person commented, “Cody Gakpo is jogging.” You only joined us a short while ago.

A fifth person asked: “Is Cody Gakpo hurt? How come he’s acting this way? He appeared five minutes ago, and he immediately exudes energy. What’s the matter with him?
