Henry Cavill Addresses Second Taylor Swift Connection After Argylle

Following Argylle, Henry Cavill’s new movie, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, is connected to Taylor Swift again.

In an interview with E! News, Cavill opened up about the connections with Taylor Swift. His latest film, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which has Guy Ritchie at the helm, will premiere on April 19. The date coincides with Swift’s eleventh studio album release, The Tortured Poets Department. However, the actor revealed that this time, it wasn’t coincidental.

“That’s the second time, sort of, I’ve been tied in with Taylor because of Argylle. There was everyone who thought that the book was written by her. And so, now this.” The Man of Steel actor and his co-stars, Hero Fiennes Tiffin and Alex Pettyfer, revealed that director Guy Ritchie is a “massive” Swiftie. “He was super excited about that date,” Cavill added.

When asked whether the rumor was debunked, Cavill replied, “Matthew did, and she did. She did not write the book.Cavill couldn’t help but note that he “was never not a Swiftie,” proclaiming that she is “magnificent.”

What Is Taylor Swift’s Connection to Argylle

Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle was based on the fourth novel of an yet-unpublished book series by author Elly Conway. The only book available in the series is the first one, which Vaughn intends to use as a base for Argylle 2. The film blurs lines as the lead character, played by Bryce Dalllas Howard, was also called Elly Conway. The fact that the real author had a suspiciously non-existent online presence before the film’s marketing started fueled rumors that Taylor Swift might be the real author.

The author’s bio on Penguin Random House’s website gave little information, except that she’s from New York and that she previously worked as a waitress. Conway’s profile didn’t include any photos, and it included several random pictures of life in New York. At the same time, she started posting when Argylle promo started, unveiling the official book cover on December 13, 2022, coinciding with Swift’s birthday.

Taylor Swift is famous for her Easter Eggs, leaving her fans little details that unveil a bigger plan, usually surrounding her albums. When Argylle‘s poster was revealed, it contained several Swift references. The cat, a Scottish Fold, is the same breed as Swift’s two felines, Olivia Benson and Meredith Grey, and was held in a similar backpack that Swift had in her documentary Miss Americana. The real cat belongs to Vaughn and his wife Claudia Schiffer, but it was enough for fans to believe it has something to do with Swift. At the same time, Howard’s Conway resembled Swift’s character in her short film, “All Too Well (10 Minute Version).”

Since then, it has been confirmed that Swift is not tied to the spy film. However, Argylle isn’t the only film Swift was tied to recently. For months, there have been ongoing rumors that Swift will make an appearance in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine. The singer-songwriter is close friends with its lead actor, Ryan Reynolds, and she has been seen hanging out with Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, who plays Wolverine, and the film’s director, Shawn Levy. Although her participation in the movie is yet to be confirmed, Marvel’s Australian account seemed to fuel the rumors with a post referencing Swift.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare will be out in theaters on April 19, 2024, with Argylle available on digital.
