It turns out Lady Gaga will be performing her Oscar nominated track Hold My Hand at the 2023 Academy Awards, according to a new report.
Numerous sources told Variety the singer-turned-actress, 36, would be making a surprise appearance at the ceremony Sunday evening to sing her new track.
The turn-around came after Glenn Weiss, the show’s executive producer and showrunner, revealed last week that Gaga would not be performing at the ceremony as she ‘is in the middle of shooting’ of Joker: Folie à Deux.
‘We have a great relationship with Lady Gaga and her camp,’ Weiss said during a news conference, according to Variety. ‘She is in the middle of shooting a movie right now. Here, we are honoring the movie industry and what it takes to make a movie after a bunch of back and forth.’
Weiss said that with her ongoing commitment to the film, ‘It didn’t feel like she can get a performance to the caliber that we’re used to with her and that she is used to … so, she is not going to perform on the show.’
The actress-singer, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, is nominated alongside BloodPop against Rihanna (Lift Me Up from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), Diane Warren (Applause from Tell It Like a Woman), Stephanie Hsu, David Byrne and Son Lux (This Is a Life from Everything Everywhere All at Once) and Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava (Naatu Naatu from RRR), the outlet reported.
