Lady Gaga pays tribute to her friend Tony Bennett on what would have been his 97th birthday… two weeks after his passing

Lady Gaga commemorated what would have been Tony Bennett‘s 97th birthday in a post that was shared on her Instagram account on Thursday.

The 37-year-old hitmaker posed for a trio of shots while standing in front of one of New York City‘s many hot dog carts.

The performer, who recently shared a heartfelt tribute to the late singer, penned a short message in her post’s caption to express her feelings about the occasion.

Lady Gaga wrote: ‘Happy Birthday Tony. August 3rd is Tony Bennett Day. A day for smiling. But I’ll be celebrating you a lot more than once a year.’

She continued: ‘I’ll celebrate you every time I’m on stage singing jazz music, every time I’m with your family, every time I walk down the streets of New York I’ll look around and remember all you did for this city and the whole world.’

Bennett passed away on July 21 at the age of 96 in his hometown of New York City last month, and he became the subject of numerous tributes from various figures from the entertainment industry.

The pair went on to collaborate on a rendition of The Lady Is a Tramp for Bennett’s 2011 album Duets II.

Lady Gaga and the longtime performer subsequently released their first collaborative album, Cheek to Cheek, in September of 2014.

The record debuted at the top of the US Billboard 200 chart, and it was received well by both critics and fans.

The album went on to receive the Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album at the 57th iteration of the awards ceremony.

Cheek to Cheek was also supported by a tour that ran from December of 2014 until the following August.

Lady Gaga and Bennett waited for seven years before releasing their follow-up record, Love for Sale.
