It has been less than a year since KOBBIE MAINOO signed a new deal, but he is about to get a three-fold pay rise.
United wants to break the deal he made earlier this season and give him a new one worth £60,000 a week.
Mainoo, who is 18, is already contracted until 2027, but United can decide to keep him for another year.
His weekly pay went through the roof when he made 10 starts for the first team a couple of months ago. This was part of an agreement to reward his meteoric rise.
United has already made up their mind about the youngster who has been the best player on the team this season.
And earlier this month, talks began about new terms that would keep the young player out of action until June 2030.
Insiders at United say that the big money will start to come in throughout the new contract. However, the deal that would triple his present salary will not be approved until the end of the season.
Mainoo was just recently moved up to the adult team’s locker room for the Red Devils.
The young star still showered and changed with the Under-21s for most of the season.
A spot became available when well-known players like Jadon Sancho, Donny van de Beek, and Facundo Pellistri left the team.
In January 2023, Mainoo played his first game for Manchester United against Charlton in a cup match.
He has become a starter this season after getting better from an ankle injury.
The young England player has now played 22 times for United’s main team.
Last night, he played as the Red Devils beat Everton 2-0 at Old Trafford.
In the 12th minute, Bruno Fernandes scored a penalty kick to put his team ahead. Alejandro Garnacho had set him up well.
Marcus Rashford scored in the second half after Garnacho won a second penalty kick late in the first half. This put his team further ahead.
