A tomb about 1,800 years old was recently discovered by experts in a field in Wales, UK. After conducting excavations, they determined that this was the resting place of an elite Roman male.

The man lived in the 3rd or 4th century BC. At this person’s tomb built of large rocks, archaeologists found a sword and a silver pin.

From these artifacts, researchers speculate that when he was alive, this man may have been an ancient Roman warrior.

According to experts, the male remains were buried in a prone position. Examination results of the remains showed that this Roman soldier died when he was about 21 – 25 years old.

The team found large nails near the soldiers’ necks, backs and feet. This is said to be evidence that he was tied up until his death and buried in that position.

Bone and tooth analysis also showed that this elite soldier suffered from a serious ear infection. This may be one of the causes of his death.

Placing the body in a prone position and being tied up is believed by researchers that the ancients did so to prevent the dead from ‘rising from the grave’. This burial method is like a type of magic spell to ‘seal’ the soul.

A team of experts led by Dr Evan Chapman – senior curator of archeology at the Welsh museum Amgueddfa Cymru, said the elite Roman warrior was buried with a cloak and sword suggesting he passed away. Try to be respected by everyone.
