The Hollywood star’s video encouraging people to overcome the pandemic was criticized for being superficially edited and out of tone, causing the opposite effect.
Sharing in the February issue of InStyle magazine , Gat Gadot admitted that her cover of Imagine with the purpose of cheering people up during the pandemic was “an action at the wrong time and ineffective”. She feels regretful about this.
According to Fox News , the cover of the classic song was posted by Gat Gadot in March 2020, when the Covid-19 epidemic had spread to Europe and Israel, before a strong outbreak in the US. The time the video was released was a week after the US government applied self-isolation regulations.
“Today is my sixth day of self-quarantine. And during the past few days I have contemplated a lot. The epidemic affects the whole world. Everyone, no matter who they are or where they come from, is living in the middle of an epidemic,” the Wonder Woman star

However, contrary to the original purpose, Gadot was criticized for “making it up” because the video was cut out of tune and difficult to hear in the parts of other artists such as Natalie Portman, Amy Adams, Mark Ruffalo, singer Sia, MC television Jimmy Fallon, model Cara Delevingne. Not to mention the way she chose John Lennon’s song caused a reaction because the Beatles member once caused controversy about his personal life.
John Mayer – who Gadot invited to participate in the cover – said at the time: “I have to clarify some information. They (Gal Gadot) invited me to sing with them. I misunderstood because I thought they wanted me to sing the song Imagine from Ariana Grande’s 2019 album Thank U, Next .
Sharing on InStyle , Gadot confided: “The video was made with pure intentions, but sometimes we can’t achieve the goal, right?”.
To make fun of herself, the actress sang a few lines of Imagine when receiving an award at ELLE’s 2021 Women in Hollywood in October 2021. “People are right to criticize me. I don’t justify myself in that situation. The controversies surrounding Imagine made me just want to get away from it,” she admitted.
