Shakira set to receive prestigious Video Vanguard Award at MTV Video Music Awards

Next month, Shakira will be honored with the prestigious Video Vanguard Award at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. This award has previously been given to music legends such as Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, and Missy Elliott.

International superstar Shakira will receive the esteemed Video Vanguard Award at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. This will mark her first performance on the VMA stage in nearly two decades. Over the course of her career, the Colombian singer has garnered four VMAs, beginning with her win in the International Viewer’s Choice (Latin America North) category in 2000.

For the upcoming awards ceremony, she has been recognized in four different categories: artist of the year, best collaboration (for her song “XQG” featuring Karol G), and two nominations in the best Latin category – one for her collaboration with Karol G and another for her solo track, “Acróstico.”

Bruce Gillmer, Paramount+’s chief content officer for music and president of music talent, programming, and events, described Shakira as a powerful global figure who constantly impresses and impacts people with her distinct musical talent. He emphasized her role as a pioneer for women worldwide and credited her with spearheading the spread of Latin music to a global audience. Gillmer also highlighted Shakira’s enduring influence and predicted that her contributions to the music industry will have a lasting impact.
