Erik Ten Hag and Marcus Rashford are said to barely be able to talk to each other, and Man United staff are afraid that their friendship is over for good.
The Sun says that Ten Hag and Rashford haven’t talked much since the star player called in sick for training last month after drinking for 12 hours in Belfast.
Because of his antics in Belfast, Rashford missed a training practice and Man United’s FA Cup win over Newport County because he was sick.
After news of his drunken actions spread, the England player was fined £650,000, which is equal to two weeks’ pay.
Reports of Rashford’s night out in the Northern Irish city say he was “clearly on a mission to get drunk.” He went to bed fully dressed at 3am.
He didn’t go to training because he stayed out until 3 a.m. in Belfast to see his old friend Ro-Shaun Williams. He then tried to trick the club by saying the night out was on Wednesday instead of Thursday.
Ten Hag tried to put an end to the situation in public last month by saying that Rashford was to blame.
When asked last month if Rashford’s actions showed he didn’t respect his manager, Ten Hag said, “That has nothing to do with me. In football, you need discipline, both on and off the pitch.”
“There is a line between what is expected and what every player and professional knows.” The only thing that counts is winning football games, and every top professional knows what needs to be done.
The person in charge has taken duty, and the rest is up to them. It’s over.
According to The Sun, the relationship has not been fixed, even though Ten Hag said it was in public.
It is said that the manager of Manchester United called Rashford in for a secret meeting to hear his side of the story.
Staff at Man United are said to be worried that the problem can’t be fixed.
Ten Hag had a problem with Rashford earlier in the season when the star player had a birthday party at a bar hours after Man United lost 3-0 to Man City. The United manager said it was “unacceptable.”
This season, the forward has only scored five goals in 31 games, which is a big drop from last year, when he scored 30 goals in 56 games.
Ten Hag’s future at Man United is still unclear because the club’s new minority owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, doesn’t want to talk about Ten Hag’s situation after buying a 27.7% stake in the company.
Ratcliffe may have already decided what will happen with Ten Hag, according to former Man United star Gary Neville.
“I believe they will decide pretty soon if they haven’t already,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“I think Jim Ratcliffe and Dave Brailsford already know if they’re going to keep Ten Hag as manager next season.”
“They’re going to leave themselves short if they wait until May to make that choice,” I said.
Because Kylian Mbappe is about to leave Paris Saint-Germain, they are also interested in Rashford. If Man United were to sell the England striker, it would completely change their funds.
At the moment, Man United is eight points behind Aston Villa in the race to play in the Champions League next season. In the fifth round of the FA Cup, on Wednesday, the Red Devils will go to Nottingham Forest.
