The Elephant Nature Park, with five locations, serves as a sanctuary for rescued elephants. Faamai resides in the Chiang Mai outpost in Thailand. These parks provide a safe haven for elephants who were previously exploited in tourist attractions or had no other place to go.

Lek’s efforts in elephant conservation have earned her recognition from various organizations, including National Geographic, Discovery, Animal Planet, and the BBC. She has also been honored as one of Time Magazine’s “Heroes of Asia” and the Ford Foundation’s “Hero of the Planet.”

In a departure from offering elephant rides to tourists, Lek has successfully created a more humane alternative. Visitors can walk through the preserves and observe elephants roaming freely in their natural habitat. “Both local and foreign visitors will be able to learn about and enjoy seeing happy and relaxed elephants at our project. It’s a win-win for everyone,” Lek said.

A recent viral video showcases the special bond Lek shares with Faamai and her elephant friends. As Lek rides her bike through the preserve, Faamai and the other elephants excitedly follow her, playfully interacting with her along the way.

Witnessing the beautiful relationship between Lek and the elephants, one commenter said, “This is the most beautiful scene I have ever witnessed a relationship between human and animal!” Lek’s dedication to these magnificent creatures has not only provided them with a safe and happy environment but has also inspired millions of people worldwide.
