Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ game-worn jersey was sold for six figures at an auction the day before he led his team to another Super Bowl.
Sold through auction house Goldin, the jersey was worn by the 28-year-old athlete during a game against the Las Vegas Raiders in the 2022 National Football League (NFL) season, Daily Mail reported.
This Mahomes jersey sold for a winning bid of $175,000, with the buyer ultimately paying a premium, bringing the total to a whopping $213,500 to make it one of the most expensive jerseys ever sold.
Mahomes passed for 292 yards and scored four touchdowns in the game with a close 30-29 win during Week 10 of the season.
Kansas City would go on to win the Super Bowl that season in a close victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Eagles featured Jason Kelce on their offensive line, a player with a game-worn jersey sold at auction over the weekend.
A 2019 Eagles uniform worn by the team’s centre during a game against the New England Patriots was sold for over $17,507 after a buyer premium.
The game wasn’t as successful as Mahomes’, with the Eagles falling 17-10 to the Patriots, the then-Super Bowl champions.
Just a day later, another NFL player had a jersey sold at auction: Hall-of-Fame ballot member Antonio Gates.
The former Los Angeles Chargers great had a uniform from the 2016 season sold for $7,320 through the same auction house.
